A Trail to Discovery: UT Research and the Great Smoky Mountains
UT and the Great Smoky Mountains have a long history of collaboration and research. The incredible diversity of life and culture within the region have provided amazing opportunities to university faculty and students for more than 100 years, even prior to the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Throughout the year, the Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development will highlight a project that leverages the wealth of resources found in the Great Smoky Mountains National park and broader region.

Tara Moore, UT's Department of Theory & Practice in Teacher Education
Hillary Herndon has recently received additional funding for the creation of a musical anthology called, “Celebrating Diversity in String Music.” The collection showcases music written by composers from minoritized communities not historically represented in performance and teaching repertoires.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science announced the 2021 AAAS Fellows on January 26. Five faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences and two from the UT Institute of Agriculture are in this year’s class.

As an intern at Knoxville’s Beck Cultural Exchange Center, senior Stella Takvoryan has spent months examining and cataloging family photos, letters, and other artifacts from the ancestral home of Beauford Delaney and his brother Joseph, also a renowned artist.
