The Old Florida, with the Grandest Golf
The Senior Golfers have been traveling to the metropolis of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, (population 1175) since 1982. They journeyed from several different states in March and found the picturesque and unusual Mission Inn Resort just as welcoming as ever. The golf courses, El Campeon and Las Colinas, were in perfect shape.
The event began with drinks on the delightful La Margarita patio, overlooking the golf couse and also Mission Inn's own osprey parents, who were building their spring nest while SGA was at the resort.  A special treat was a visit from Pittsburghers Sue Arnold, Jeff Leech, and Gail Florence, who stopped by to greet the SGA event participants while on vacation at nearby Kissimmee, Florida.
Winners at Gross were fellow Pittsburghers (Yinzes?) Linda Thier and Gary Claus. "These courses are just beautiful," said Linda. "This is the first time Jay and I have been in the area, and we love it." The Thiers and Clauses had planned to stay longer in Florida, but had to hurry back to Pittsburgh to get ready for the Eagles "Hotel California Tour" which they all were attending at the end of the week. "Take it Easy...." sang Linda as she stepped into her limo to the Orlando airport.
"JoAnn and I have had a great time here this week with all of you, said Gary, "and we, along with Linda and Jay,  especially invite you to join us at the SGA July event at Bedford Springs, Pennsylvania. It's a grand and historic resort, and the golf course is spectacular. Come and experience one of the many reasons we love Western Pennsylvania! You will have a wonderful time!"

Net winners were Tallahassee's Bob Cummings for the men, and Candy Pole, from Hollywood, Florida, for the ladies. Runner-up was SGA Veteran Ted Thranhardt, another SGA Floridian, who lives at Ponte Vedra Beach.
Best Ball Team winner was the great team of Jay and Linda Thier and Candy and Dan Pole. Scramble Winners were Bill Cembor, and Bob and Es Cummings. The "One and Only!" Close to pin winners was Jay Thier. "Kicking it up a Notch" best-dressed winners were Bill Cembor and Loretta Thranhardt.
Congratulations to all!

Bill Celebrates His Birthday and the Elite Eight...

SGA & US Army Veteran Bill Cembor had something extra to celebrate along with his birthday at Mission Inn.  After returning from his service in Vietnam, Bill enrolled at a small community college in Jersey City, New Jersey -- St. Peter's.  Bill was proud and thrilled as his St. Pete Peacocks knocked off Kentucky and Murray State in the NCAA tournament, and it was one of the best presents ever as they clinched the game against the Purdue Boilermakers on his birthday. Congratulations, Bill! Great run, Peacocks!

Michelle & Cynthia -- 40 Years of Friendship

SGA Director Cynthia Swanson enjoyed getting together with her longtime friend and Mission Inn group salesperson, Michelle Beucher Purser, for lunch on Mission Inn's beautiful La Hacienda patio. These two became acquainted in 1983 and have enjoyed keeping up over all these years.
Says Michelle, "I began working for my dad Nick Beucher in the 1980s, and am still working fulltime every day, although most of my siblings have retired. My little brother Bud is General Manager of the resort now, and I love sharing an office with him, although here in Lake County, Florida, he keeps our space together super-cold!!
"I feel very fortunate to have had my career as part of this family business in this beautiful part of Florida. And it's very special that I have worked with SGA founder Bob Swanson, with his daughter Cynthia, and now with his granddaughter Catherine.  The Senior Golfers will always be very welcome at Mission Inn."
Thanks, Michelle!  SGA will return to Mission Inn again in 2023.  SGA Members, let us know when you would like to visit this beautiful spot.
