With the assistance of UT’s Research Development staff, Frank Barrera, assistant professor of biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, recently received additional funding for a new piece of equipment that would increase productivity on his project and support research conducted by other NIH investigators at UT.

Dimensions for Postdoc and Graduate Students

Dimensions is an online tool that helps inform the UT research community of data for publications, research funding (including abstracts for previously funded grants), patents, and clinical trials. A special webinar focused on Dimensions for postdoc and graduate students will take place Wednesday, October 23 at 12:00 P.M. 
#23 in operations research
UT recently came in at No. 23 nationally for its contributions to operations research practice literature in the 12th Rothkopf Rankings. The rankings were published in the INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics. The rankings are based on an assessment of practice-focused operations research published between 2012 and 2018.

A team of collaborators from UTIA has received a Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives grant from the USDA for the purpose of developing innovative dairy products. In Tennessee, the approximately $454,000 award should help the state’s struggling dairy industry regain some economic traction.
The Power of the Press: Southern Black Journalists and the 20th-Century Freedom Struggle
On Monday, October 28, UT Humanities Distinguished Lecture Series guest Jerry Gershenhorn will analyze how African American newspapers in the Carolinas, Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi used the power of the press to win important victories in public facilities, education, politics, and the courts.

Global Catalyst Program Awardees Announced

The Center for Global Engagement awarded Global Catalyst Awards to nine professors with a wide range of research areas received the awards to pursue their global research initiatives. The program provides funding for faculty-led partnerships with international universities, institutions of higher education, and research institutes.

Final Week to Apply for Graves Business Plan Competition

The Graves Business Plan Competition offers UT students enrolled in undergraduate and master’s degree programs the opportunity to win start-up capital up to $5,000 for an original business idea. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 21.

2020 UTRF Technology Maturation Grant: Call for Submissions

UTRF is announcing a call for submissions for the twelfth annual UTRF Technology Maturation Grant program. Interested applicants should submit the official UTRF Technology Maturation Grant Proposal form by 5:00 PM on October 24, 2019. Up to $15,000 is available to assist researchers in advancing their technologies on the path to market.
