Give Thanks to a Fellow Jayhawk with Recognition Program |
In this season of gratitude, the employee recognition program Jayhawk Thanks makes it easy to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of colleagues across campus.
The program, launched by Staff Senate last spring, enables the KU community to thank a Hawk for their work by downloading and sending the Jayhawks Thanks template. The digital card is a quick and meaningful way to recognize the contributions of staff, boost morale and foster a culture of gratitude.
Those receiving a Jayhawk Thanks are encouraged to share the recognition with their supervisor so it can be included in their performance evaluation.

Guidelines for Offering Additional Student Hours Over the Winter Recess |
- Students are not eligible for out-of-state remote work assignments as defined by KU policy.
-
In advance, discuss with the employee the availability of additional work hours and establish an interim work schedule.
- Student hourlies and hourly graduate assistants should use the web clock to report all hours worked based on the interim work schedule approved by the supervisor. They should not exceed 40 hours per week.
|
As a reminder, the university will be closed from Dec. 25 – Jan. 1 for the Winter Break. Arrangements should be made so student employees do not have to work, except for essential campus functions. Questions about student employees working during breaks should be directed to the HR Transactions team at hrtransactions@ku.edu.

Tips for Administering the Online Student Survey of Teaching |
The Online Student Survey of Teaching is open, and students have until Dec. 5 to complete it. The Student Surveys of Teaching resource page provides information about the survey distribution schedule, survey dashboard access and additional survey resources.
Recommendations for Instructors:
|
- Use class time. Set aside 10-15 minutes at the beginning of a class period for students to complete the survey. Be sure to leave the room while students complete the survey and ask a student to let you know when the class is finished.
-
Schedule it for your students. Add completion of the survey as a no-credit assignment or an event on the Canvas course calendar/to-do list.
-
Don’t wait until the very end of the semester. Consider using a class session that falls before the final week of the semester when student and instructor schedules are particularly full.
- Explain how you use student feedback. Take time to explain to your students why their feedback is important and how you will use it.
-
Consider an incentive. Offer extra credit or another incentive for completion.

A more detailed list of recommendations can be found in a Nov. 14 message sent to faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants.
