Dear Cathedral Family,
Ahhh, September. School is back in full swing, the weather is starting to turn (??), and an important birthday is coming up. That's right, it's my wife's birthday! And my eldest son Robbie! Oh, and of course, dear old Cathedral turns 106 on September 13th! And, no, before you ask, we do NOT have any of our original staff still here. But we do have the same commitment to our Catholic and Holy Cross roots, and we pray each day that the day will be filled with grace and love, and they usually are!
Amidst the busyness of this month, we also hold a wonderful event near the month's end, on September 26th. Our Evening of Excellence is one of our best opportunities each year for you, our supporters, and family members to come and see what we are all about. During this evening, we honor new inductees into our prestigious Circle of Excellence and learn about their contribution to Cathedral. This is always a tremendous moment that we look forward to with great anticipation! We will also share a bit about our school, what we accomplished this past year, and what we have planned for the upcoming year. You know, there are many terrific stories about how we answer the call to greatness. We also take a few minutes to hear from an educator about their Cathedral journey and watch student performances. Yes, there is an opportunity for you to support our school financially, and this is vitally important. Did you know that we need to raise $2.6 million each year to support our programs and tuition assistance? Our campus is exceptional, as are our programs, and this happens only with the financial support of you, our supporters! I thank you for the consistent financial support we receive, and I want to share that we do our very best to ensure that we are very good stewards of these gifts.
In closing, I ask for your prayers for another successful school year and the safety and transformation of our students. I also ask for the good health, energy, and zeal of our Educators! They truly provide the stellar student experience we hang our hat on. If you are feeling extra motivated, consider sending a note or email to any of our zealous educators (the contact information is in the directory on our website). My daughter, Gabi (Cathedral class of 2018!), is a new teacher at St. Matthew's Catholic School down the street, and she tells me nearly every day about the affirmations she receives from parents and other adults. She truly treasures them, as do all of us!
Thank you in advance for your financial support, or your affirmation support, and your prayer support. It all works, and is all to help dear old Cathedral fulfill our mission every day! And speaking of our mission, I invite you to read this special message from our Chief Mission Integration Officer, Matthew Gring.
Peace to you, and Our Lady of the Hill, pray for all of us!
Rob Bridges, PhD
President

Cole Hocker '19 Wins Gold, Sets A Record!
Cathedral is beyond proud of Olympic Gold Medalist, Olympic record-setter, and Cathedral graduate Cole Hocker '19! In a post-medal interview, Cole thanked Indianapolis, Indiana, and "especially Cathedral" for all the support. Cole had a room full of supporters at Cathedral's watch party as he ran the 1500m race. More than 250 students, educators, board members, parents, and alumni packed the Dining Hall for an experience few will ever forget. Our Holy Cross Value of Family was palpable. Broadcast/journalism educator Marc Quaranta shot the video below of the watch party, which has more than 230 thousand views.

After winning Gold, Cole said, "I just felt like I was getting carried by the stadium and God.” How beautiful to see our Holy Cross Value of Zeal on a world stage! Zeal is the great desire to make God known, loved, and served. Those with this virtue fulfill their duties with eagerness, affection, courage, and perseverance. (Kind of like an Olympic Champion!) Greatness called, and you answered, Cole! You make our Holy Cross value of Excellence shine like GOLD!

Cathedral Partners With Village of Merici
Cathedral High School is blessed to have a new partnership with the Village of Merici, a non-profit that provides an innovative approach to services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Village of Merici clients volunteer in Cathedral's Johnny Mac's Coffeehouse, allowing them to expand their work skills and give back to the community. Cathedral's Chris Beaty '00 Entrepreneurship Class continues to operate the coffeehouse and has the added benefit of fostering new friendships while honoring the school's Holy Cross Value of Inclusivity and Diversity. Johnny Mac's is dedicated to the memory of John McCormick '90. We have no doubt the collaboration between Cathedral and the Village of Merici would make him very proud. You can read the full press release here.

Congrats to AP Capstone Diploma Recipients
Congratulations to the 19 members of the Class of 2024 who earned the AP Capstone Diploma! AP Capstone is a diploma program based on two yearlong AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Instead of teaching specific subject knowledge, AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work. Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and four additional AP Exams receive the AP Capstone Diploma. In addition to the diploma recipients, we'd also like to congratulate the recent graduates who passed AP Research with flying colors and earned the AP Capstone Certificate. Congratulations to Bryce Hahn, Sophia Lenceski, Noelle Smith, and Aubrie Wright. Cathedral is so proud of all of you and your phenomenal educators!
We also congratulate the students who answered the call to greatness and performed exceptionally well on their AP Exams last spring. Once again, Cathedral has an impressive list of students who received an AP Award! By doing incredibly well on AP exams during their time at Cathedral, several members of the Class of 2024 earned more than 50 credit hours for college! We want to congratulate the students and their phenomenal educators!
Please note that AP Scholar with Distinction is granted to students who receive an average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. AP Scholar with Honor is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores 3 or higher on four or more of the exams.
