10/7 Vigil
During the month of October, students gathered for a vigil in remembrance of the lives lost on October 7th. During the event, students shared their personal stories. (picture above)
JEWnetics (Jewish Genetics Group)
This year, our Jewnetics group brought in Dr. Stuart Ditchek, the former medical director of the Jewish Genetic Disease Consortium and the current Chief Medical Officer of Kids of Courage, to speak about common Jewish genetic diseases. (picture above)
Dancing with the Stars Shabbat
Students, our “Pros” were paired up with staff members “Celebs” to perform a dance at Shabbat dinner this past October. Students enjoyed voting for their favorite dance couple! Vanderbilt Hillel has various Shabbat themes throughout the school year.
Sunday Night Dinner Program
The Sunday Night Dinner program provides students and Jewish community leaders an opportunity to engage with one another over a meal. This semester, 14 students were hosted at five homes throughout the community for Sunday night dinner. Thank you to Rabbis Michael and Lindsay Danziger, Alyssa and Ethan Hassenfeld, John and Heidi Hassenfeld, Daniel and Dalia Cohen, Seth Goldberg and Marc Neuman, and Lynn and Scott Ghertner for hosting our students. Tikkun Olam Makers Make-a-Thon
The annual Make-a-Thon was held the weekend of October 25. Students, from a variety of disciplines, unite to create and engineer solutions for individuals with disabilities. One project example is a group fo students made an adjustable easel to help a nine year old girl, who lacks the physical strength to sit for long periods of time, to do her homework from different resting positions.
Nashville Kosher Hot Chicken Festival- Vandy Hillel Team
Vanderbilt Hillel students put together a team, "The Hillel Hot Shots" and competed this year at the 10th annual Nashville Kosher Hot Chicken Festival. They won "Best Mild Chicken" at the festival. The trophy is proudly displayed at the front of entrance of the Hillel building. (pictured below)
