My Forever Family NSW

Welcome to the  September  edition of the My Forever Family newsletter.

This edition we share the great activities which took place during Foster Care Week, including our take-over of Sydney CBD and our appearance at the Rabbitohs v Roosters NRL game!
Make sure you send in your story for your chance to win two books from our great library. We’re always looking for stories to inspire people to become carers, and we want to hear from you!
We hope you enjoy this edition. Thank you for being part of the My Forever Family NSW journey, and caring for kids.

Research Launch

On Tuesday 15th October My Forever Family NSW will be facilitating the research forum “Evidence to Practice: Carer Recruitment and Training”. The research has been undertaken in conjunction with the University of Sydney and focuses on the key areas of recruiting carers for children and young people in care aged 9+, and standards in training for out-of-home carers.
The aim of the forum is to bring together the sector and respective government agencies to collaborate on implementing the evidence-based research into practice, leading to better outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care.

Out and about during Foster Care Week

My Forever Family NSW has partnered up with many friends to make Foster Care Week a very special occasion in 2019! We began with our Sibling Campaign, inspiring potential carers to begin their care journey with a family group. Examples of our campaign can be viewed here:
Our foster care banners went up in the Sydney CBD celebrating Foster and Kinship Care Week in many languages. Our banners flew high around Town Hall, Martin Place and Wynyard in English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic.  Here’s a pic of the Hon. Gareth Ward MP, Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services, alongside our banners!
Just as we were cranking up the actions around the various inter-agency foster care picnics across NSW, our friends from Souths Cares Rabbitohs agreed to partner with My Forever Family and support our efforts. Souths CEO Blake Solly spoke in front of a crowd of 25,000 spectators during the Rabbitohs vs Roosters game.
It’s been a fabulous time for acknowledging, celebrating, and recruiting carers – thank you so much, your stories are what inspire others to follow in your footsteps.
