Dear Colleagues,
As the Fall 2025 semester winds down and we all look forward to winter break, I want to remind our instructors of a few key policies, resources, and tips for a successful wrap-up.
The Policies and Resources for Instructors page summarizes vital information to support both you and your students in the home stretch of this semester. I appreciate you taking the time to review the information and make use of these resources as needed.
Please note some key new policies that passed the Faculty Senate this fall:
|
-
Office Hours. Starting this spring, all instructors must hold a minimum of two office hours per week in a modality matching the course delivery. We know virtually all instructors already do this; this policy is just meant to standardize practices.
-
Policies for LMS use in Face-to-Face, Online, and Hybrid Courses. Advisors report that students often have difficulty locating course materials; starting in spring, all instructors are expected, regardless of the course modality, to provide a minimal course site that includes a syllabus, grading schemes, required texts, and course schedule.
- Policies for Minimum Usage of LMS Assignments. We know that many students rely heavily on the “Assignment” structure in Canvas to track their progress in their courses. Starting in spring, all instructors must ensure that all graded assignments are posted using the Assignment structure.

Looking ahead to Spring 2026, anticipate a message in January regarding the Beginning of Semester Welcome. For advance planners, the UWM Syllabus Template is available on the Policies and Resources for Instructors page. As you begin planning for Spring 2026, please keep digital accessibility compliance in mind as UWM works toward the April 1 deadline.
Thank you for your dedication and hard work on behalf of our students this semester. Your efforts are central to fostering student success and advancing UWM’s mission. I wish you and your students a successful conclusion to the fall semester and a well-deserved, enjoyable winter break!
