San Francisco Public Works and the Department of Public Health will host a community meeting regarding the Chinatown Public Health Center renovation project. The meeting will provide updates on the project, construction schedule and any anticipated impacts.
The community meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 30, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, at 777 Broadway, San Francisco, CA 94133.
Chinese interpretation will be available on site. If you need interpretation in another language, please contact us at least two business days in advance.

三藩市工務局與衞生局將舉行社區會議,介紹華埠公共衞生局改善工程的最新進展,包括工程時間及相關影響。

Earlier this month, Public Works joined Mayor Daniel Lurie, City officials and community leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Portsmouth Square Improvement Project, a $73 million investment in Chinatown that will transform the neighborhood’s historic public square with a new community clubhouse, expanded play areas, flexible event space and additional space for residents to gather.

Starting in July, the project team will be hosting regular open office hours every second Friday of the month at 10 AM. Meet at the corner of Walter U. Lum Place and Washington Street.
Join us to get construction updates, ask questions, and share feedback on the Portsmouth Square Improvement Project. The first office hours will be Friday, July 10, 10 AM.
Interpretation services will be available in Chinese at all office hours. For other language services or accessibility requests, please contact Noah Levy, project manager, at noah.levy@sfgov.org at least 48 hours before the meeting. Late requests will be honored if possible.

Upcoming construction activities and traffic impacts: |
Public art pieces at the Portsmouth Square construction site are currently being carefully removed and placed on pallets for protection and storage. This work will continue over the coming weeks and will culminate in a crane operation on July 1, 2026. To support the crane operation for art removal, Walter U. Lum Place will be closed to vehicular traffic on July 1, 2026.

During active offhaul operations, the contractor may intermittently close the park-side sidewalk along Walter U. Lum Place to facilitate the removal of demolition debris from the park.
|
The main bridge demolition over Kearny Street and adjacent to the Hilton Hotel is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 31, and will continue through 5:00 AM on Monday, August 10. Demolition of the bridge over Portsmouth Square Park is expected to take place later in August.

- Kearny Street will be closed between Clay and Washington
- from 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, to 5:00 AM on Monday, August 3
- from 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, to 5:00 AM on Monday, August 10
- Local business access will remain available.

The Portsmouth Square Garage will be closed August 1 - 2 and August 8 - 9. It will remain open from Monday to Friday during the demolition.

The Chinatown / Him Mark Lai Branch Library, originally built in 1921, is a cherished neighborhood landmark that will undergo a significant renovation to meet the needs of current and future library communities. The upgraded library will continue to serve as a welcoming, multi-generational space for learning, creativity and cultural connections. The renovated Carnegie library will feature improved accessibility, multilingual resources, and expanded areas for children, teens, and community gatherings — all while maintaining the building’s architectural charm and panoramic city views. The Chinatown Him Mark Lai Library will be a friendly, safe, and inclusive space for dialogue and gathering for Chinatown and other communities.
The Chinatown Branch Library Renovation Project is currently in the bidding phase to select the general contractor. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

華埠麥禮謙圖書分館建於 1921 年,是華埠内具有歷史意義的社區地標。麥禮謙圖書分館即將進行大規模翻新工程,以配合現時及未來的社區需要。圖書館翻新後,將為所有市民提供嶄新的閲讀空間、學習環境、及文化交流場所。翻新後將改善無障礙設施,增設多語言資源,並擴充兒童、青少年及社區活動空間。同時為圖書館還原建築物内原有的設計特色及城市景觀。麥禮謙圖書分館日後將繼續為華埠社區及市民提供一個友善、安全及共融的空間,促進彼此交流並加强社區聯繫。
華埠麥禮謙圖書分館改善工程現正進行招標,相關資料將於稍後公布。
