You are invited to attend UT’s first Engagement and Outreach Conference.
The conference consists of two sessions, the first of which will focus on the relevance, research, and reciprocity of engagement. The concluding session will serve as a beginning to generate new ideas, explore challenges, focus on solutions, and ways to improve the lives of citizens as we strive for a vibrant community. 
First Session: Monday, October 8, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Second Session: Tuesday, October 9, 9 a.m.–noon

A coalition of nearly 40 student groups and academic units at UT is launching a voter registration campaign on campus—dubbed #VolsVote—in hopes of encouraging more students to participate in the upcoming midterm elections.The campaign will include classroom registrations throughout September.

According to the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, UT generates $1.7 billion in income in Tennessee. Additionally, the university provides more than 35,000 jobs within the state. This report sees a $100 million increase since the previous report was published.
John Haas
Distinguished alum and NFL retiree Peyton Manning donated $1 million to create the John Haas Student Experimental Learning Endowment. This endowment will go toward student trips, study abroad, internships, and other programs that focus on the out-of-classroom learning experiences.

Research Seed Funding

The Office of Research and Engagement will soon launch the second call for Research Seed proposals. The grant program offers internal funds to help generate proposal submissions to focused sponsors or around a specific initiative. The seed grants are available in four categories:
  • Biomedical Research Seed Program proposals, due October 31
  • Mission Agency Research Seed Program proposals, due November 14
  • Community Engaged Research Seed Program proposals, due November 28
  • Interdisciplinary Research Seed Program proposals, due December 12
Complete solicitations and FAQs will be posted by September 19. Information sessions are being offered September 17 and September 26.

10th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference at the Interface of Biology and Mathematics

The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) will present at the 10th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference October 27-28 at the University of Tennessee Conference Center. Students will host talks, poster sessions, participate in a panel discussion on career paths, and much more. This conference is open to students, faculty, and high school teachers.

Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism & Service-Learning

The Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning will be held February 10-12, 2019 at Franklin Marriott Cool Springs hotel in Franklin, TN. It is designed to increase service and volunteerism across the state while offering opportunities to address l needs and use service as a catalyst for change.
