Cooperation within a group of people is key to many successful endeavors, including scientific ones. According to a study published in Nature Communications, cooperation among competing fishers can boost fish stocks on coral reefs. Orou Gaoue, assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, is a coauthor of the study.

 The Center for Disease Control’s U.S. National Authority for Containment of Poliovirus has requested institutional biosafety committees/programs to assist with compiling the U.S. national inventory. ORE is requesting that all UT research faculty assess their biological inventories.

New Science Alliance Funding Opportunity

The Science Alliance has announced a call for proposals for a new internal funding opportunity. Support for Affiliated Research Teams (StART) was established to further build on Science Alliance’s strong history of fostering collaboration between UT and ORNL researchers.
The program will have a single call with semiannual deadlines, the first of which is June 24, 2019. Typical awards are $75k.

Faculty Fulbright Application Program

This year the faculty Fulbright deadline is later than usual: September 16, 2019. Therefore, ORE will offer a special Fulbright application program this summer. The new program includes a sequence of interactive workshops, reviews by Fulbright fellows on campus, and small writing groups, all in addition to the standard application review.

Get Ready for InfoReady

To streamline internal funding and competition management, ORE has recently acquired a new internal software called InfoReady. InfoReady will replace all of the emails, spreadsheets, and shared folders currently used for internal competitions with a more efficient system by September 1, 2019.
