Dear Student Affairs Team Members,
What a great start to the 2023-2024 academic year! From our kick-off on August 1, to welcoming new students during move-in, to assisting returning students during the heatwave, and offering a range of programming and services for student engagement, we accomplished a lot!
As a thank you to you and your teams, we will provide a full breakfast prior to our Divisional meeting on Wednesday, September 13, in Risa Commons. The hot breakfast will be available starting at 8 a.m. Please make every effort to attend and network with colleagues. We will also be introducing our new team members in the Division during the meeting. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and will wrap at 9:30 a.m.
One announcement I’d like to share before September 12 is the opportunity for a WashU student to win a ride in a hot air balloon with me during the Great Forest Park Balloon Race on September 16! To enter, students must answer why they think St. Louis is on the rise. They can submit their answers via this link by September 11 to qualify. Please share this with students in your areas.
There is a lot of great content in this eNewsletter edition, including details on the Dr. G’s Fun House event this Friday! Please read thoroughly and note all the opportunities we have to celebrate and engage as a Division.
Warmly,
| |

Anna “Dr. G” Gonzalez
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

WashU Center for Career Engagement |
We were excited to announce the newly launched Center for Career Engagement in August. To signal this change in how we serve students, the career center is now formally named the Center for Career Engagement. Under this new model, the Center for Career Engagement will provide equitable and consistent access and resources for all undergraduate, graduate and professional students across schools, and will be a one-stop shop for all employers, alumni and families who want to support WashU students and alumni in their career journeys.
The center will be led by Norma Guerra Gaier, associate vice chancellor for career development and education. Gaier will begin her role on September 20. To learn more about the Center for Career Engagement, please visit their website or view the article on The Source.
Do you have students involved with your office? Encourage them to register for Handshake! With Handshake, students can interview for jobs and internships, find career tips, navigate upcoming employer events on campus, and register for career fairs and events like the upcoming Fall 2023 Career Fair on September 21.

Student Affairs bulletin board |
Let us help advertise your events and programming! We are accepting submissions from across the division to be included on a banner design being displayed on a prominent bulletin board on the first floor of the DUC. Submissions will be compiled into one design that will fill the entire board.
To ensure your submission is included in the design, please submit to us by the second Friday of each month. The deadline for the October board is this Friday, September 8. Questions? Email StudentAffairsComms@wustl.edu.

Student Affairs staff kudos! |
We'd love to highlight our Student Affairs staff who generously devote their time to serve and volunteer in organizations dedicated to the Student Affairs profession. If you currently serve as a member of a board or committee within a professional organization, please let us know! To do so, email StudentAffairsComms@wustl.edu and include your name, title, headshot and what committee or board you are part of, and we will highlight you in future Student Affairs eNewsletters.

On August 28, we officially launched an Instagram account for the Division of Student Affairs, @WashUStudentAffairs. We would love your support by following us and resharing our content on your accounts. The goal of the account is to help promote all of the incredible programming, initiatives and events hosted by all of you within the Division of Student Affairs. Feel free to tag us in your posts and stories as well for us to reshare!
To help build engagement, we started a contest with our own Dr. G called “Where at WashU is Dr. G?” Each Tuesday and Thursday in September, we will post a new photo of Dr. G with one of the sculptures on campus for students to go on a scavenger hunt to find that exact location. Please help us share this contest on Instagram by following our @WashUStudentAffairs account!
