Dear Students,
I am sorry to share the tragic news that one of our students, Cory Johnson passed away unexpectedly on September 27. Cory first enrolled at Evergreen in the fall of 2018, and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 2020. Cory most recently was a student in the Masters in Teaching (MiT) program and was student teaching this fall at Reeves Middle School.
We are acknowledging the passing of Cory by flying a black flag at half-staff at the entry to Red Square.
The loss of a member of our learning community is always painful, and feels especially hard in an environment that is partly remote. Such news impacts everyone differently, and can compound feelings of uncertainty, loss, and isolation. Members of the MiT faculty have been in communication with Cory’s family, and providing support to students, faculty and staff who knew and worked with him.
Students who feel impacted by this, or are aware of others who may need additional support are encouraged to use the CARE Team Referral Form
The Student Wellness Services website also provides off-campus resources such as The Crisis Clinic of Thurston and Mason Counties at  360-586-2800.
I extend my deepest condolences to Cory’s family, friends, classmates and faculty.

Best regards,

Holly
