Expanding Digital Access for Older Adults
|
AGE+ launched a digital literacy pilot program in Baker City, Talent, and Stanfield to help older adults confidently navigate the online world. Funded by the State Library of Oregon and partnering with local libraries and senior centers, this hands-on training will equip participants with essential digital skills. Small cohorts will learn from trained digital navigators, supported by intergenerational volunteers, using the Senior Planet curriculum from AARP. These libraries now have loaner devices for continued use.
This pilot is just the beginning—AGE+ plans to expand the program to more communities, ensuring older adults across Oregon have the tools and knowledge to stay connected in an increasingly digital world! If you're interested in bringing this program to your community, contact Lori Silverman at lsilverman@ageplus.org.

Lead the Change—Join LEA!
|
Ageism is a widespread but often overlooked bias that limits potential. Older adults bring experience and opportunity—yet outdated perceptions continue to influence policies, workplaces, and programs. The Leadership Exchange on Ageism (LEA) equips leaders to challenge these biases and build stronger, more inclusive organizations and communities.
Join a dynamic peer-learning experience to explore the harms of ageism, rethink assumptions, and drive meaningful change. The next cohort begins on May 9. Click below for details on sessions and cost. Don’t miss this chance to be part of the movement. Scholarships available.

On March 6, advocates, experts, and leaders gathered at the Oregon State Capitol to champion HB 3497, a crucial step toward building a Multi-Sector Plan for Aging (MPA). If passed, this bill will establish the Shared Future Oregon Task Force to create a framework addressing housing, caregiving, workforce development, and economic vitality as Oregon’s population changes.
Testimony highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action, with speakers detailing gaps in housing, caregiving, and workforce support. Experts provided key data on demographic and economic trends, while community leaders shared firsthand experiences of how aging-related challenges are already affecting Oregonians. Their voices reinforced why HB 3497 is essential for shaping a future where all generations can belong.
What's next? A work session is scheduled for April 1, where members of the House Committee on Early Childhood and Human Services will review and vote on advancing the bill. Stay engaged and learn how to support this effort.
In case you missed it: Stephanie Hooper was a guest on OPB’s Think Out Loud, discussing Oregon's changing population and how we can adapt systems to support all generations. Her insights align with our MPA efforts to help all people thrive in our communities. Listen here!
