I made sure that everyone involved – airline staff and beyond – knows how great your team is. Again, thank you so much."

PDX Lead TSA Officer Alicia Canham displays her TSA cupholder.
Alicia Canham's Innovation Takes Off at PDX
When a spilled sippy cup of breast milk took out an X-ray machine at PDX, TSA Lead Officer Alicia Canham saw more than a mess – she saw an opportunity.
Tired of seeing baby bottles and coffee cups toppled by heavy screening curtains, she came up with a simple but brilliant fix: a 3D-printed cupholder that keeps drinks upright as they move through security. With no previous experience, she measured a bin, taught herself to use her son’s 3D printer, and built a prototype over a single weekend. Her invention quickly earned praise from coworkers and passengers alike and has already been shared with other Oregon airports.
"It gives you the warm fuzzies when you can help someone," Canham said. "If you’re looking to innovate at TSA, talk about your ideas with others. Your peers can help you. People feel invested if they are included in the conversation."

Save Lives, Give Blood
Want to take home a $10 gift card to Loyal Legion? Just sign up for the Delta Air Lines' blood drive on Wednesday, July 16, happening pre-security on the mezzanine level at PDX. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood or platelets, and your blood donation helps to ensure there's enough supply for all patients who need it. It costs nothing but your time, and your donation is a gift that can help up to three people. Schedule your appointment online or call the American Red Cross at 1.800.RED.CROSS.

Be Knowledgeable: Heat-Smart Tips for Hot Days
As temperatures rise, it’s important to take steps to stay healthy and safe on the job. Hot weather can be risky for you and your coworkers, but following a few simple guidelines can help everyone stay protected and feel their best.
  • Dress for hot conditions in loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.
  • Drink water every 15 minutes to stay hydrated. Take a moment to fill up your water bottle before you get to work and stay cool, safe and quenched during your workday. For your convenience, there's a water station at the employee shuttle drop-off spot.
  • Take frequent breaks in shady, cool or air-conditioned areas.
If you see someone who is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea (heat exhaustion) or dry, hot skin, confusion and convulsions (heat stroke), act quickly and get help. In case of emergency at PDX, call 503.460.4000. For non-emergencies, call 503.460.4747.
If you use TriMet to travel, keep an eye on their alerts page as temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit may cause delays. Read more about hot weather how it affects TriMet.

PDX Lands on List of World's Most Beautiful Airports
We’re blushing, but like…architecturally. PDX's new main terminal is on the World's Most Beautiful Airports List 2025, picked by the international design jury behind the Prix Versailles. You’ve seen the glow up: a sweeping 9-acre timber roof inspired by forest trails, light pouring into open spaces, and materials sourced from right here in the region. Even the layout feels more like a stroll through a Portland neighborhood than an airport terminal. Architects call it biophilic design – that's when you bring nature into public spaces to make them feel more human, calming, and a lot less stressful.
