Hello Jumbos!

Welcome to Tufts! We're excited to have you as a new student and can't wait to meet you this fall!

You'll be making your way to campus before you know it. Ahead of your arrival, we're going to be writing each week this summer with important reminders, key updates, and introductions to staff and resources. Be sure to check your email each Tuesday afternoon starting next week, and contact us any time with questions.

This week, we're introducing some of the departments and staff members that you'll be meeting when you first get to campus.

Orientation

Orientation 2020 is Wednesday, September 2 - Monday, September 7. It takes a big team to plan and prepare. Our professional staff and student Orientation Coordinators will be on campus all summer long getting ready for your arrival. They'll also be on hand during Orientation Week, along with members of our student Residential Life staff, who will help introduce you to everything Tufts!

What Happens During Orientation?

You’ll participate in a wide range of programs during Orientation that are designed to familiarize you with campus resources, build community and connection, and establish skills for independence and responsibility. We divide our goals for Orientation into four broad categories:

Intellectual Engagement and Inquiry
Meaningful Inclusion
Community and Belonging
Health and Wellness

The Student Life Team

Our Orientation Team will get you started when you first arrive, but there are lots of other faculty and staff members at Tufts who are looking forward to meeting you!

Jumbos, meet your Student Life Team:

Dean of Student Affairs Office: We're your central hub for co-curricular resources at Tufts. Our office is a great place to start if you're unsure who to contact with a question or concern.
Academic Advising: We are a primary resource for academic matters at Tufts. We're here to help you register for courses, find academic direction, and answer questions about academic policies.
Office for Residential Life and Learning: We're so much more than where you live. We offer residentially based programs throughout the year and are one of the largest student employers on campus.
Office for Campus Life: We support over 330 student groups at Tufts, and we work with Student Government and the Tufts University Social Collective on initiatives and programming.

Here's What's Coming Up Next

Places and Spaces

Next week, we're going to introduce you to different places and spaces on campus and in the greater Boston area. We'll visit the residence halls and take a tour of some keys spots on campus!

Pre-Orientation Registration

Pre-Orientation programs are an opportunity to get involved on campus early, meet upper-class mentors, gain leadership skills, and meet other students with similar interests.

We'll be opening registration for "Pre-O" on May 19. If you'd like to participate in one of our 8 programs, be sure to register by June 3. (Don't worry, we'll remind you about registration on and before May 19.)

New Student Checklist

You'll have a few responsibilities over the summer, and many of them can be completed online. Your customized New Student Checklist 2020 will be posted on May 19, and it will help you stay on track over the summer. Keep a look-out for this important summer "to-do" list. It will include the Housing Survey for all students, which which will open on May 19. It will also include the Academic Essentials module for your program and/or standing, and the Advising Survey for First-Year BA/BS students, both of which will open on June 16.
