Jeffery Fischer is Driven to Provide Great Customer Service
Trying to remember where you parked your car is a familiar challenge. Luckily for weary travelers in the PDX economy lot, Jeffery Fischer (he/him) with SP Plus Corporation knows how to help locate your vehicle.
This note was sent in by grateful guests:
“Late on a Friday night, we arrived from our flight, got to the economy parking lot…and realized we didn’t remember where we parked our car! We pressed the emergency button in a bus shelter and within minutes Jeffery Fischer showed up to help.
Jeffery was incredibly courteous as he quickly loaded up our suitcases and then drove us around until we located our vehicle. Thanks to his help, instead of being distraught, we were delighted. He was polite, professional and a credit to your organization. Many, many thanks for his assistance.”
Jeffery was honored at the PDX People Customer Service Awards, where we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. What's New with PDX Next: Noise Update, Crane Picks, Bag Road Updates and May Forum
Noise Update: This week will be similar to last week, with the most noticeable noise in the center of the ticket lobby. Demolition is focused in the center of the former mezzanine level behind expansion joints, which means much of the noise and vibrations are muffled. Active work hours are the same: Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Crane Picks: When cranes are used to move construction equipment, areas under the crane arm are blocked off to keep everyone safe. There a few crane picks coming up, but the most noticeable will be those on Wednesday, June 1, through Friday, June 3. From 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. on those days, the D/E bypass door will be blocked off. You can still access Concourses D and E through the employee lane at the D/E checkpoint – but remember, you can’t bring prohibited items through the checkpoint.
Roof work over Concourse B continues. There will be some late-night crane pick activity on Thursdays, until the work ends in August. Operational impacts are expected to be minimal as the picks will be late at night, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Roof work is weather dependent, which may affect hours, active days and the anticipated completion date.
Bag Road: As work wraps up on the north end of main bag road, it reverts back to two lanes. United returns to bag carousel ten and American returns to bag carousel nine.
May Forum: Want the inside scoop on construction at PDX? Jen Reynolds with the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Caitlin Powell of Hoffman-Skanska will share the latest construction updates and answer your questions about PDX Next in just 30 minutes. The next update is set for Tuesday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m.

Taqueria La Merced Extends Their Hours
As you may know, Taqueria La Merced is new to the PDX roadway as an additional pre-security food option for employees and passengers. They're here to better serve the many airport employees aren't able to go through security checkpoints – or who don’t have time to get through security and back to their workplaces for meals. After a successful soft open, Taqueria La Merced is expanding their hours and will now be at PDX Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the south end of the lower roadway near pick up area one. View their current menu to see what tasty options are available, though please note that food offerings, prices and hours of operation may change in the coming weeks to best meet customer needs.
Q&A with Kurt Huffman of ChefStable
You may not recognize his face, but Kurt Huffman is a local legend. The founder and CEO of ChefStable – a company that works with chefs to open and operate restaurants – Huffman has played a key behind-the-scenes role in many nationally-known Portland restaurants, including Pok Pok, Ox and Lardo. This year, ChefStable is a partner in two new PDX spots: Juliett, a stylish cocktail bar on Concourse E that honors female aviators, and the Concourse B location of Good Coffee, scheduled to open this summer. We sat down with Kurt to ask him for advice on opening a restaurant in the airport.
Hillsboro News Times: All-Women Air Show Thrills Crowd at Hillsboro Airport
Thousands of attendees enjoyed this year’s Oregon International Air Show, which was held in beautiful sunny weather. The flyers, and most of the ground crew, showed off the prowess of women in the field of aviation, military and civilian. There was a crowd touring the EP-3 Aries, which was the largest airplane at the show on static display. "We typically don't go to air shows, but it's really rewarding to be here," Lt. Cmdr. Colleen Johnson said. Johnson, a Naval Academy graduate, pilots the large airplane, which had to get special permission to land at the Hillsboro Airport and is just one of 14 in the country. Uvalde, Texas: Resources to Process the Grief
We’ve all seen the news from Uvalde, Texas, the site of the deadliest shooting at a U.S. elementary school since the 2012 attack at Sandy Hook. This tragic and horrifying event can cause a range of emotions: sadness, fear, anger and everything between. Parents may worry about sending their children to school, which we all wish we’d never have to question as a safe space. If you are struggling to process your emotions, here are some resources that might help:
PDX in Pictures
We've bin waiting for PDX to bring back our twice-annual clean-up events, where airport businesses can drop off unwanted, large or bulky items for the folks on the PDX waste minimization team to reuse or recycle. Big thanks to the team that proves a cleanup is no waste of time – watch for the next event coming later this year!
