Colleagues, 

Now more than ever, it is imperative that we accurately share the contributions faculty make to our students, our community, our state, and beyond. This past spring, the Kansas Board of Regents updated its policy on workload, which requires all universities governed by KBOR to implement a faculty workload policy and regularly report on faculty activities that contribute to the university’s mission, students, the state, and society at large.  In our annual report to KBOR, the university will be required to report a number of metrics that can be sourced through existing systems we already utilize. However, to ensure we are accurately reporting faculty activity, we ask that you partner with us in providing or verifying this important data.

In order to accurately report faculty achievements, we are asking all tenure line faculty and librarians, teaching professors, professors of the practice, and unclassified academic staff (research professors, clinical professors, curators, specialists, scientists), to utilize KU Faculty Insight to enter, store and organize your career achievements.  Faculty activity reporting should include scholarship, creative works, teaching and mentoring, service, and awards and honors.  

Academic Analytics imports many publications, awards, grants, patents and clinical trials for you through publicly available sources. Additionally, KU uses Streamlyne and Financials in the Cloud (FITC) to import grant information, courses taught, and student committee service. Please check these items in your profile for accuracy and completeness. In addition, features such as duplication and Smart Import (AI) can help you quickly add activities from existing records and documents.

The Office of Faculty Affairs and Analytics, Institutional Research & Effectiveness (AIRE) are here to support you and answer any questions you may have regardless of your familiarity with KU Faculty Insight. Faculty Affairs has developed a website to provide you with quick access to the KU Faculty Insight portal, address frequently asked questions, and direct you to on-demand resources as well as dates for upcoming workshops. 

KU Faculty Insight workshops and information sessions, cohosted by Faculty Affairs and AIRE, will continue this fall and spring and in years ahead. Our upcoming workshop sessions include: 

Updates and enhancements, informed by faculty feedback, continue to be made to KU Faculty Insight. You can see some of those here.  

KU Faculty Insight offers time-saving career advancement tools for you and your colleagues, too. With updated activity information, you can easily create custom CVs, CVs specific to promotion and tenure requirements, and reports for annual reviews. KU Faculty Insight also offers the ability to search for collaborations, funding, and honorific award opportunities. Find resources on how to utilize these features on the KU Faculty Insight for Activity Reporting website or join us for an upcoming workshop to learn more.  

The university’s first report to KBOR must include aggregate data for the entire university related to faculty activity within the 2025 and 2026 calendar years (January 2025 through December 2026). For this first year, we are requesting that all faculty activity for the reporting period is entered into KU Faculty Insight by 5 pm on Monday, March 1.  

Please focus on entering your activity between January 2025 through December 2026. Inputting your work may take anywhere from one to four hours, depending on your discipline and the amount of activity already entered from publicly available data. Features such as the duplication tool and Smart Import can help save time with the process. In subsequent years, updates of the previous year’s activity will be due by the final Friday in January, which also aligns with most annual evaluation timelines.  

All the scholarship produced, time spent mentoring students, and service provided across all levels of the university is a testament to the breadth, depth, and importance of our collective achievements. Now, we have the chance to more accurately tell our story and share the quality and enormity of this work. Thank you for all your contributions.
