Mental Health Care in WA: Help is on the Way

We have a lot of good news about access to mental health services in WA State. Growing public awareness and diminishing stigma, increasing investment of state funds to train more mental-health workers and to increase capacity for treatment, and the efforts of businesses and philanthropists to focus on behavioral health—paint a brighter future.
As UW Psychiatry Chair Jurgen Unützer recently explained, “Ten years ago, maybe only one or two legislators had a personal passion for improving mental health care in the state,” he says. “Today this is on everyone’s radar screen.”   Read more by clicking below

HIPRC wears green in honor of  National Injury Prevention Day
November 18, 2021

National Injury Prevention Day is a day designed to raise awareness about the burden of childhood injury, violence, and a need for change. Hospitals and trauma centers across the country will be bathed in green light to “shine a light” on opportunities to prevent serious childhood injury.
To participate in National Injury Prevention Day use the hashtag  #BeInjuryFree or #HIPRCnipd and shine a green light, and tag @HIPRC
This year, Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC) and UW Medicine's Addictions, Drug, & Alcohol Institute (ADAI) are sharing a new digital toolkit on teen opioid-use prevention. The toolkit includes videos and information for both teens and parents, with a unique section dedicated to how parents can initiate a conversation with teens around opioid use.
