Dear Incoming GW Law Student,

Greetings again! We are writing with some additional information and important deadline reminders. Please refer to the transfer checklist, which can be found on the Fall 2023 Orientation website, with all of the tasks we have sent to you and the associated deadlines. We will continue to add to the checklist as new tasks become available.

Reminder! The active links in this email are limited to GW Organization emails, i.e., if you are not using your @gwu.edu or @law.gwu.edu account you will not be able to access the information you seek.

Register for your GWorld Card (Due: August 5)
The GWorld Card is the official ID card at GW and is required to access academic buildings, campus libraries, the health and wellness center, and other services. Want to avoid waiting in long lines of new students needing GWorld cards? Upload your photo today (no later than August 5, 2023); the GWorld team will have your card pre-printed and ready for pickup at the GWorld Office.

(NEW) Provide Any Dietary Restrictions (Due: August 10)
Meals will be provided at various times during orientation. If you have any dietary restrictions, please complete our Dietary Restriction form by Thursday, August 10th to ensure your dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

(NEW) Financial Aid’s Cost-of-Attendance '202' Presentation (August 10)
The final session for the GW Law Student Living: Cost-of-Attendance '202' presentation will be in-person on August 10th at 3:00pm in the Burns Moot Court Room. If you are using financial aid, including federal student loans, for living expenses, and were not able to attend one of the eight virtual sessions, please plan to attend the final session if you will be in the DMV area. In this session, the GW Law Financial Aid Staff will present on living within the cost-of-attendance (COA) while attending law school. In this session, the COA components will be discussed in detail as well as helpful budgeting tools.

Interactive Budget Tool
If you are feeling confused about how you will spend money during law school or the idea of  loans is stressing you out, you can also use the Interactive Budget Tool created by the SBA to map out your finances during law school. To use, download a copy of the budget and edit the copy with your personal information.

(NEW) GW Law Journal Competition Information
The 2023 GW Law Transfer Journal Competition will be held from Thursday, August 17 at 9 AM to Monday, August 21 at 9 AM.  An information session will be held on Wednesday, August 16 at 2 PM in Lerner 401 (L401). Embedded here and posted on the Transfer Checklist are four important documents. We’ve provided a brief explanation of each.
The competition is run entirely through TWEN which is now live. The page will contain the registration links, competition instructions, and supplemental material instructions. This page is also where students will download and submit the competition. Students must add the 2023 GW Law Journal Competition course on TWEN to receive emails once the competition is live and have access to all of the documents, submission links, etc. Students may sign up either by (1) manually adding the course on TWEN or (2) clicking this link to add the course. Transfer students should join this page if they are planning on, or considering participating in the competition. Please email gwjournalcompetition@law.gwu.edu with any questions you may have.

NOTE: The week of orientation, you will receive an email to your law school account about registering your GW Law assigned online research accounts.  We provide this information to you well in advance of the Transfer Journal Competition as it is run through TWEN.  More importantly, we encourage you to register your accounts at your earliest opportunity to have these set up in advance of the beginning of the semester and the journal competition, should you choose to participate, as it can take 24 hours to access your new account. More information about technology at the Law School will be provided on Tuesday.
