From the Office of the Dean |

Happy Monday to the CHDCM community!
I hope this edition of the Dean’s newsletter finds you all as well as possible at this hectic time of year…and that you’re enjoying this warm weather while it lasts!
As I write these words, the calendar has turned to October, which means…we’re launching our new CHDCM signature initiative, ONE COLLEGE, ONE EXHIBITION! If you’ve visited Walsh Library recently, you’ve likely seen the collection of forty-five amazing portraits of Americans Who Tell the Truth, the series created by award-winning artist, Robert Shetterly. This entire month, we’ll have a series of events, student showcases, and speakers engaging the themes and figures captured so beautifully in these paintings by Mr. Shetterly. As you’ll see below, our partners at SOPAC are kicking things off with a community-focused panel discussion tomorrow (Tuesday) night, from 6-8pm. We’re following that up with the OCOE Opening Reception Wednesday at 5:30pm in Walsh Library—RSVP using this link! Take a break from midterms and join us for food, a signature mocktail, and the world premiere of “Truth Be Told,” performed by our fantastic Chamber Choir, under the direction of CHDCM’s own Maestro Tramm!
Oh, and one more thing: at the Opening Reception Wednesday night, we’ll also be handing out our 2nd CHDCM Laptop Sticker—collect the whole set, and get a special reward from me!! There are many more OCOE events to come as we get further into the month, so check the website and stay tuned for more!
And, of course, there is something else going on right now….midterms! I wish you all well as you finish papers, projects and exams—or grade those papers, projects, and exams—and would just encourage all members of the CHDCM community, as always, to practice self-care in these hectic times. I know that Fall Break is only a week away, but as you navigate the due dates and deadlines that separate now from then, make sure that you’re taking time for self-care. These times of year can be taxing on mental health, so please don’t forget the support and resources that are available from the University: Students can find dedicated resources through Seton Hall’s Counseling and Psychological Services, available at (973) 761-9500. Campus Ministry is likewise available at (973) 761-9545. Employees may use the Employee Assistance Program by calling (877) 622-4327.
With that, I invite you to read on, and enjoy the good news and shout outs from our CHDCM community. As always, keep your good news and event notes coming. I’ll hope to see you all at the OCOE Opening Reception on Wednesday, and otherwise have a happy and healthy week of midterms, followed by a wonderful, restorative, and healthy Fall Break!

Additionally, in the summer of 2025, Dr. Cheema presented two scholarly papers at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) 108th Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA. The first explored journalism as a passion economy and its impact on journalists’ well-being using a mixed-method approach. The second examined how South Asian content creators digitally construct well-being on TikTok through the lens of Ayurveda. This received recognition with a 3rd place Top Faculty Paper Award in the Minorities and Communication Division.

Congratulations to Dr. Jessica Rauchberg! She was recently featured in Yahoo's review of RushTok, the social media phenomenon surrounding sorority recruitment. Dr. Rauchberg highlights how platforms like TikTok have turned Greek life into a blend of personal expression and marketing, noting, “When you open up the app and it's endless scrolling through Bama Rush, it's [also] endless advertisements.”

Granato has been involved in many aspects of campus life, including serving as President of the Italian Club, where he organized trips to NYC and SOPAC for an opera performance. He is an ambassador for CHDCM, and an Executive and Sports Director at SHU TV, where he helped rebrand the organization and build a producer team that has covered major events such as the 2024 U.S. Election and Donald Trump’s inauguration. He now directs and produces “Hall Zone”, an ESPN-style sports show featuring sports news, a debate segment, and an open discussion panel.
