Dear Community,
Once again I am cautiously optimistic.
The Delta variant is in retreat. The leaves are turning. And Truth is advancing. Last week the courageous Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen proved what we knew: that, while the web has infinite benefits (imagine the pandemic without it), the algorithms of some companies are hungry beasts feeding on our fears and insecurities for their own growth.
Setting boundaries around how much these algorithms inflitrate my brain, body, and soul, and sharing that idea far and wide, is what my book 24/6: Turning off Screens One Day a Week to Get Back More Time, Creativity & Connection is about. It's been wonderful to see a lot of activity around 24/6 this month, including being listed as a Top High Tech Audio Book of All Time (listen to the book here) and on PopSugar’s fall list of books to read.
My film studio Let it Ripple's new program for companies, Creating an Inspiring New Hybrid Workplace, which builds off many ideas in the book, is up and running and great working with companies to make a better workplace for employees and employers. If you're interested in either the one-hour or four-week program, find out more here or email sawyer@letitripple.org.
Regarding Texas's new six-week abortion ban, in 2003 I made a 13-min film called Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness that encapsulates my thoughts. I wish it weren't still so relevant. You can watch it here.
Lots of new books, shows, and podcasts below to expand your mind and keep you invigorated. I’m seeing the comedian Demetri Martin in person this weekend, my first live comedy show in a very long tme. Cannot wait.
In that spirit, I’m also giving my first live lecture in a theater next week and am so excited to feel the energy of people in the room versus just on Zoom. Looking forward to being onland instead of online. Ready to be back in 3D!
To falling into fall, cautiously optimistic,
Tiffany

In my last newsletter I shared the idea of Shmita: the Jewish sabbatical for the land every seventh year, during which nothing is planted and the land can rest. On Rosh Hashana we entered a shmita year, making this a great time to slow down and take stock. Jewish Emergent Network's year-long Shmita program encourages people to do just that. My close friend Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie asked me to kick off the program with a 10-minute talk that he responded to with Rev. Derrick McQueen. Talks were also given by Nigel Savage, Ginna Green, Stosh Cotler, and System Ali. You can watch the recording here (intro by Amichai starts at 6:15, my talk at 8:00), and you can learn more about the year-long Shmita program here.

We will talk about what we've learned about leadership and hopefully about what we have learned from our dogs.Learn more and register here.
