| Calling for an End to Gun Violence
The Congregation of St. Joseph shares in the communal heartbreak of our nation as together we face another unthinkable and senseless act of violence. Moved by deep sadness and compassion for the victims, families, and witnesses of the shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, we join with them in prayer. However we acknowledge that thoughts and prayers are not enough. We call for the passage of laws that ban assault weapons, require universal background checks for all gun sales, provide funding for gun violence prevention research, and makes the trafficking in weapons a federal crime. | Sister Ann Meyer Celebrated for Service in Health Care
Recently, Sister Ann Meyer's retirement was celebrated by Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. Sister Ann had spent 14 years working in the Medical Records department before her retirement. “I don’t look at myself as retiring," said Sister Ann. "I’m moving to Wichita, I am going to have more time to paint, I can be with our sisters in the nursing home. It’s a new chapter of my life.”
Sister Ann's departure is especially poignant as she represents the last of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita to serve in Pittsburg, Kansas, where the sisters first opened Mount Carmel Hospital in 1903, in the same spot where part of the clinic sits today.
