Happy (Summer?) Tuesday! Even as spring break fades into the past, and as we grapple with the “spring ahead” from this past weekend, I hope that you take heart in the amazingly warm weather we’ve been having, and know that Spring is actually around the corner. After the winter we’ve had, I think we all needed some serious sunshine—hope that you’re enjoying it, even as you return to classes this week!
Not only are we officially in the second half of the semester, but we’re already into Lent, looking ahead to this week’s Big East Tournament and next week’s celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, all while continuing to celebrate Women’s History Month! The warmer weather also means that campus is jumping with events and happenings of all sorts—and so read on to get the details!
As always, keep your good news and event notes coming, and I hope each and every one of you has had a wonderful return to classes so far!

Student Organization Highlight |

Lambda Pi Eta is the official Communication Studies honor society of the National Communication Association, proudly represented at Seton Hall University. The society primarily serves students in the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, offering many opportunities to network with other academically focused students. Lambda hosts events such as resume workshops, sports media panels, writing and creativity sessions. These events are tailored to help students build their communication skills and translate them into professional opportunities.
In addition to organizing its own events, Lambda collaborates with other campus organizations. By fostering connections within the campus community and beyond, Lambda creates opportunities for personal and professional development. Students interested in joining are welcome at any time, but those aiming for formal induction in the spring must meet the criteria of 60 credits completed, a 3.0 overall GPA, and a 3.25 GPA in communication studies. Through these efforts, Lambda continues to cultivate leaders who are prepared to make an impact in the field of communication.

Amya McKnight of Manhattan, NY, is a junior in Visual Sound Media with a concentration in Film Production and a minor in Animation Design. She aspires to be a screenwriter, director, and producer. She discovered her passion for creativity at a very young age, but became especially interested in film in 2020. The lockdown during COVID led her to create a project which she now envisions as a television show—and plans to pitch to major networks, such as HBO, Netflix, and Hulu.
This project amplified her passion for film, which is why she is now a proud film student in CHDCM. To complement her studies, she has also created a screenwriting club for the campus community that will launch this month: the Creative Connections Club. Amya wanted to create a space where she and her peers who love storytelling can collaborate and create remarkable stories.
She is a participant in the CHAMP mentorship program in the College, while also serving as a CHDCM Ambassador, a member of the Theatre Council, a part of DOVE, and EOP. This semester, Amya is also excited to be part of a new apprenticeship program for VSM students, working with CHDCM alum and Executive Producer for the Emmy-winning Lou Reda Productions, Inc. In her downtime, her hobbies include sketching, drawing, sculpting, bingeing TV series, and reading.

This past weekend, a group of WSOU students had the incredible opportunity to attend the #Happens festival in Las Vegas—one of the industry’s most exciting showcases for emerging artists, radio tastemakers, and music innovators.
Throughout the trip, students connected with label reps, discovered new bands, attended panels, and got a behind‑the‑scenes look at how the next wave of rock and alternative music is breaking nationally. The experience offered a powerful blend of networking, education, and real‑world industry exposure—exactly the kind of hands-on learning that fuels the WSOU spirit. One of the panels included Matt Pinfield (photographed) who hosted a panel where he interviewed the singer of the band Social Distortion. They also took a tour of the Punk Rock Museum (photographed shopping for vinyl), and saw an acoustic, late-night performance by Jakob Nowell, the son of the late Sublime front man, Bradley Nowell.
