Jeremiah Pacheco
Jeremiah Pacheco's Customer Service is Something to Write Home About
Jeremiah Pacheco (he/him) with the Port of Portland was nominated by Diego, also with the Port, thanks to a letter from a traveler.
As Diego shared, "I received a handwritten thank you note from a passenger recognizing Jeremiah’s above-and-beyond efforts assisting her with securing oversized luggage so it could be accepted by the airline. It's just another example of Jeremiah's persistent dedication to our passengers."
The letter reads:
"I was returning home from Portland after a trip to help settle the estate of my parents, who both passed recently. I was bringing back a vintage rifle that had belonged to my late parents to pass on to my son. I thought I had taken care of the gun case requirements, but at the counter, I discovered my attempts to secure the gun case were not adequate.
I could go on and on at this point, but the bottom line is that your employee, Jeremiah Pacheco, was instrumental in getting this tired, emotionally spent, cranky lady on her flight! He went way above and beyond his required duties. He took me under his care and helped secure the case. He went with me to my airline’s counter to make sure I had everything approved and squared away before he left.
He was my hero! I hope he can be recognized for his efforts. As long as PDX continues to employ and reward such wonderful people, you will continue to be a wonderful place to visit and travel through."

Be Knowledgeable: Heat-Smart Tips for Hot Days
As temperatures rise, it’s important to take steps to stay healthy and safe on the job. Hot weather can be risky for you and your coworkers, but following a few simple guidelines can help everyone stay protected and feel their best:
  • Dress for hot conditions in loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.
  • Drink water every 15 minutes to stay hydrated. Take a moment to fill up your water bottle before you get to work and stay cool, safe and quenched during your workday. For your convenience, there's a water station at the employee shuttle drop-off spot.
  • Take frequent breaks in shady, cool or air-conditioned areas.
If you see someone who is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea (heat exhaustion) or dry, hot skin, confusion and convulsions (heat stroke), act quickly and get help. In case of emergency at PDX, call 503.460.4000. For non-emergencies, call 503.460.4747.
If you use TriMet to travel, keep an eye on their alerts page as temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit may cause delays. Read more about hot weather how it affects TriMet.

June Marks Pride Month
June is recognized across the country as Pride Month – a time to honor the ongoing fight for civil rights and equal justice for the LGBTQIA2S+ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and Two-Spirit). It’s also a moment to celebrate the achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals throughout history.
Pride Month traces its roots to a pivotal event in June 1969, when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a well-known gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The raid sparked six days of protests that became a defining moment in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement – both in the U.S. and around the world.
Sheree Temple from PortPRIDE – a Port of Portland employee resource group – shared, "Pride Month is about visibility, acceptance, and remembering the heroes who fought for those things and won’t get to enjoy them. This month for Pride, please love your neighbors, no matter who they love, the clothes they wear, or the pronouns they use. Life is really more enjoyable with color."
Take this time to celebrate the LGBTQIA2S+ community and reflect on the many ways you can honor Pride Month and continue to provide an inclusive, respectful experience at PDX.
