School of Engineering Dean's Search Announcement

Dear AS&E community,
I am writing to let you know that I have been offered the position as dean of the School of Engineering, and I enthusiastically accepted the offer. I want to thank everyone for the incredible support you have given me during the past year as dean ad interim. I am truly grateful and feel honored to have this opportunity.
In the upcoming months and years, I look forward to working with you to continue to grow the school's research activities, enhance the undergraduate and graduate student educational experience, and provide a safe, diverse, and inclusive learning and working environment for our students, faculty, staff, and the whole Tufts community.
Later today, the provost will be sending an announcement (see below) with more details about my appointment, but I wanted to be the first to share the news with you. Kindly note that the information contained in this announcement below is confidential until 1 p.m. EST. Following a national search, I am delighted to announce that Kyongbum Lee has been appointed dean of the School of Engineering and the Karol Family Professor, effective July 1, 2022. Kyong has served as dean ad interim and Karol Family Professor since September 2021 and I look forward to his new term as dean.
Kyong joined Tufts in 2002 as an assistant professor within the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the School of Engineering. He was appointed department chair in 2012, before becoming a professor in 2014. During his 20 years at Tufts, Kyong has received multiple honors and awards for his teaching and research, including the 2006 Jay Bailey Young Investigator Award in Metabolic Engineering, 2010 Tufts Graduate Teaching and Mentoring Award, and 2015 American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Fellowship. Kyong earned a B.S. from Stanford University in 1995 and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2002. As an innovative, collaborative, and student-oriented leader, Kyong has and will continue to make a significant impact on the School of Engineering.
