"Devoted to: The Breaking of Bread" Matthew 26:17-30
Today in Worship
Breakfast. Who doesn’t know what breakfast is?  With breakfast, we break our overnight fast (unless you are in the habit of getting up in the middle of the night and finding a snack.) “Break bread.”  Now this is a different expression that has Biblical origins.  Dr. Luke records that the first Christians devoted themselves to, among other things, “the breaking of bread.”  The breaking of bread can refer to sharing a meal together, but more specifically, this expression refers to sharing the Lord’s Supper, Holy Communion or The Eucharist together.  At the Last Supper, Jesus broke bread, unleavened Passover bread to be precise, with his disciples and said, “Take and eat.” Then he passed the cup and said, “Drink from it, all of you.”  The followers of Jesus have been devoted to this life-giving meal since that Thursday night long ago.  Let us break bread together.
Noteworthy:
  • Chancel Choir will sing “All Good Gifts” at the 8am service
