No Afternoon Programs on Friday

Afternoon Programs will not meet on Friday. Our winter season and winter Afternoon Programs begin on Monday.

No Classes on Monday, Limited Afternoon Programs

Monday is a professional development day for our faculty. There will be no classes. Varsity wrestling and varsity girls' and boys' basketball are the only teams that will meet for practice. Faculty will be preparing for online teaching and assessment in preparation for the transition to online learning after Thanksgiving.

Halloween Costume Contest

The Senior Class will be raising money for their class gift with a Halloween Costume Contest during lunch on Friday, October 30. To enter the contest, students will bring $3 to sign up with Ms. Duncan in the School Store. There will be prizes for the top five costumes.

Halloween Festival on Friday

There will be a Halloween festival on Friday, October 30 that will include trick-or-treating, treats, games, and a Haunted Trail. Students in Grades 6-7 may attend from 3:10 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Students in Grades 8-12 may remain on campus through dinner and until 9:30 p.m. Events, including the Haunted Trail, are only open to SAS students, faculty, and staff. Students are not required to attend. Day students must check-in and check-out. If they leave campus they cannot return. COVID-19 protocols will be in force.

How You Can Help

Day Families, We welcome donations of individually wrapped candies for Friday's event. Please have your child bring them to Bishop Bratton Room 1. Questions? Contact Director of Residential Life Chris Monahan.

Fall Athletic Awards

Our Fall Athletic Awards celebration will be Thursday, November 5 at 12:45 p.m. (Central). The event will be streamed for our families. Access the event with the passcode &alsowyou. We are excited to recognize our varsity volleyball, girls' soccer, cross country, golf, and mountain biking athletes and to be able to include you in the event.

Last Shot at the Flu Vaccine

Students, faculty, and staff who missed the chance to get their flu shot on campus earlier this month have another opportunity. Please complete this permission form. While SAS does not require an influenza vaccine, it is highly recommended. If you have questions about this or other health precautions being taken on the SAS campus, please contact our Health Clinic.

Run, Don't Walk

Virtual Open House, Nov. 15

Response to our virtual Open House has been through the roof! If you know someone who would like more information about how they can provide their child with CHALLENGE, BALANCE, AND JOY, please encourage them to sign-up or send along their contact info to our Admission Team before spaces are full. Tell someone "You belong here!"

The Candidates

We are aware of three members of the SAS community who are up for election on Tuesday. Teacher Geoffrey Smith and parent Bess Turner are both running for Sewanee's Community Council. Parent and current congressman Scott DesJarlais is running to hold his seat in Tennessee's 4th Congressional District. We applaud everyone's willingness to serve our communities through elected office.

Mock Election

As part of our ongoing efforts to encourage active citizenship, in addition to having hosted debate watch parties and a voter registration drive on campus during this election season, we will be holding a mock presidential election for our students on Tuesday, November 3. To help our students understand the American electoral process, Mr. Prehn's American Electoral Politics class has divided our community into five "states" with different

Thanks!

We are grateful to the University of the South for many things, but this week we are especially grateful for allowing our swim team to return to the Fowler Center pool!
Our appreciation to parent David Syler for recording Something Wicked This Way Comes for your enjoyment.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to SAS swimmers Loulie Frazier '25, Jackson Frazier '24, Will Hanger '22, and Zolon Knoll '21 on a successful meet this weekend with their USA Swimming Club, Huntsville Swim Association. COVID-19 Updates

Our COVID-19 Protocols & FAQs are updated regularly.

We're looking forward to our child coming home for the holidays, but we want to be careful to continue to maintain everyone's COVID-19 safety. Any suggestions?

James T McDeavitt, M.D., Senior Vice President and Dean of Clinical Affairs at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston offers this advice for building your own holiday bubble. The best news is we have already taken care of some of these steps for you, and your child is well versed in COVID-19 protocols.

The 4-County Active Case Rate

As of Tuesday, the seven-day average active case rate is .45%. Please continue to encourage adherence to our COVID-19 protocols as cases continue to rise in our area.

Join Us in Welcoming James

Please join us in welcoming James Steffner and the Steffner family to SAS. James joins us in seventh grader as we begin Quarter 2. He is a day student from Chattanooga. He and his family are delighted to be at SAS.
"Everyone is SO nice, and the teachers are excited to be teaching us. Plus, we get to be outside so much!" Know someone like James who is ready for a welcoming school? Space may be limited next year, encourage them to begin the admission process for next year NOW.
The SAS Players offer Halloween costume inspiration.
