Welcome to the April edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. The spring semester is almost over, and soon our graduates will be walking across the stage at our commencement ceremony on May 9. It’s almost time for me to get an entire box of tissues ready to wipe away tears! I love the opportunity to shake our graduates’ hands and give them hugs as they walk down from the stage. It is often very emotional, as I was with them during the ups and downs along their journey at Indiana Tech. If you are attending our commencement ceremony, please see me so I can congratulate you. Our students get to this day with a lot of love and support from you–and I want to recognize your accomplishment, too! If your student is graduating in May, please be sure to check out our commencement web page to learn more about this year’s speaker and to read other important information about the day. Also, scroll down the commencement web page to check out President Einolf’s classic video from Commencement 2018 when we told the story of updating Indiana Tech’s Alma Mater! The graduation ceremony will be live-streamed beginning Saturday, May 9, at 12:30 p.m., and you may access the live-stream at the following link: Class of 2026 Commencement

Members of the Indiana Tech Warrior community donned bright red heels and stepped forward in solidarity during the campus’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on April 8. Part of a global movement launched in 2001, the one-mile walk raises awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault and gender-based violence, while challenging harmful stereotypes and sparking meaningful conversation.
| |
This year marked the 4th annual Walk a Mile event on our campus! We were honored to host keynote speaker Cheyenne Taylor Jacobs for her engaging presentation on “It’s Giving Red Flags.” From this conversation, students left with an understanding of consent, boundaries and safety. In addition to the walk, we were able to collect donations (thanks to the Indiana Tech community) and present them to the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center.

Dr. Lisa Kindred
Assistant Dean of Online Learning/Professor of Business
- I am Italian (well, Sicilian to be exact). My family name is Glaviano and they are from Corleone. I make my own pasta and bread along with a killer sauce. Recently, I submitted an application for Italian dual citizenship.
- I grew up on the Jersey Shore (exit 117) where pork roll, hard rolls, bagels and pizza are a way of life. I’d argue that Jersey has the best pizza in the country, if not in the world.
- I love to travel. Some of my favorite places are Ireland and Hawaii, but I am always open to discovering somewhere new.
- I work out regularly – mainly to burn off the many carbs I consume as a result of my Italian diet. I am a Peloton addict (both the bike and tread) and I incorporate strength training into my routine. When outdoors, you can usually find me on a hiking trail. One of my favorites is the Nakoa Trail on O‘ahu, which winds through a lush rainforest with several water crossings, including one that reaches waist deep!

- I like gardening and growing flowers in my yard.
- My favorite thing to do is spend time with my young family.

Final Thoughts from a Fellow MomKarl and I traveled to Pittsburgh earlier this month to spend Easter weekend with our sons, Nicholas and Thomas, and Thomas’ fiancée, Victoria. On Friday afternoon, we attended the Pittsburgh Pirates’ home opener, and the home team won! It was a particularly exciting game as the newest Pirate, Konnor Griffin, who is only 19 years old, hit a double in his very first at-bat in the major leagues.
On Easter Sunday, we went to Mass and then brunch with Victoria’s family. What made this day extra special for me was that the Mass was held at the church where Thomas and Victoria are getting married in the fall. And then, the Easter brunch was held at the country club where the reception is going to be. It was a preview of the big event in October!
My exciting news, and you need to understand how long a process this has been for me, is that I finally found a dress to wear for Thomas and Victoria’s wedding! After going to many major department stores and even desperately ordering dresses from Amazon, I finally discovered this amazing women’s clothing store in, no, not New York City, but in (can you believe it?) Wabash, Indiana! It is called the Francis Shoppe, and the owner, Terri, is simply amazing. I can’t wait to share pictures in the fall! And shout out to Karl, who was so incredibly patient with me through all of this!
I hope you have a wonderful rest of the spring semester! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your student.
