Happy New Year! The CEOE Center for Student Success hopes you are enjoying your winter break. As we all prepare to begin the upcoming spring semester, we have made several exciting advancements we wish to share with you:

Industry Engagement Survey: Over the past semester, the CEOE Department has made an increased effort to connect our students with industry through a number of seminars, activities, site visits, student-led organizations and more. As such, we are requesting your feedback via this survey before Friday, January 19.
- Instagram: Based on student feedback, we are now on instagram. You can follow us here. Information about how students can get involved will be sent soon.

Hub: Stevens Hub is the new University intranet site. CEOE’s page is here and through the Hub page via your MyStevens account. This page provides a summary of upcoming events and links to degree requirements, as well as other helpful information and resources.

TOTE Services Cadet Internship Program at Philly Shipyard |

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) Summer Internship |
SOM is seeking the best emerging talent to join them this summer. Design opportunities in their Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC, offices are available. Selected candidates will gain hands-on project design experience in architecture, interiors, structural engineering, sustainable engineering and urban design. Dykstra Walker Design Group, a medium-sized engineering, surveying and environmental firm located in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, has immediate opportunities for entry level civil engineers and CAD operators with 0-3 years' experience. New York State Transportation Construction Inspector Internship Program (TCI) |
NYSDOT hires many TCI's from around the NYC area to work on construction projects in NYC during the summer. The program also exists throughout NY State so students can apply to work anywhere in the state. The program is also open to first year students who are looking for internship opportunities. EarthScope Internship and Research Opportunities |
EarthScope Consortium has multiple internships available for undergraduate and graduate students in summer 2024, which range from research opportunities to career skills development in science education, data processing, and field work. Application deadline is February 15. View more information here.

Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Urban Environment Research Opportunity |
GI4SUrE! is a 10-week summer program that will immerse 10 undergraduate students in green infrastructure (GI) research. GI is a better way to build, restore, and improve urban infrastructure. Students explore how GI can mitigate the effects of urban runoff on surface water quality and hydrology through field, lab, or modeling work. Based in eastern Tennessee, the research will affect any geographical area that deals with urban stormwater runoff. Students will be part of a professional and social atmosphere that will develop their fundamental research methodologies and critical thinking skills. The deadline is March 1. BioSensor Materials for Advanced Research & Technology (BioSMART Center) Summer Program |
The BioSMART Center seeks to understand how biological systems communicate with their surroundings by measuring information, sensing their inner and environmental states, and using that knowledge to develop innovative sensing technologies, sustainable materials, and greener environmental processes. Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) |
NHERI offers research experiences for undergraduates that focus on mitigating natural hazards specific to earthquake, wind, tsunami, coastal engineering, data management, cyberinfrastructure, post-reconnaissance, simulation, and social science research.The deadline to apply is February 9, 2024. Engineering Festivals (E-Fests) |
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) regularly hosts Engineering Festivals (E-Fests) where students and young engineers participate in stimulating digital competitions, win prizes, meet with potential employers, build resumes, etc. The next digital E-Fest is the Sustainability Innovations Competition: Extended Reality Challenge (XRC): Sustainability Innovations for Ocean Cleanup, on March 16, 2024. This virtual reality competition, sponsored by Autodesk, has a focus on Industry 4.0 skills, and learning about sustainability and current global issues. Students will be tasked with designing an autonomous robot to pick up trash and debris. If you are interested in participating, please register by February 1st.

Professional Engineers in Construction of New Jersey Scholarship |
The Professional Engineers in Construction of New Jersey is pleased to announce that they will present the 2023-2024 Sol Seid Award for Excellence to a junior civil engineering student. The award will have a value of up to $15,000 to be paid to the student. They will select the awardee(s) from the nominees submitted by each of the seven Universities in New Jersey offering civil engineering degrees.
If you are interested in being the nominee from Stevens, please submit a resume and half a page letter of introduction that outlines your interest in the construction industry, your pursuit licensure as a PE, and any other relevant information to Prof. Sarath Jagupilla (sjagupil@stevens.edu) and Liz O’Connell (eoconne2@stevens.edu) by Friday, January 19th at 4pm.
After receiving the completed packages, the CEOE Department will select the nominee to send to the Professional Engineers in Construction of New Jersey. The selected nominee will then complete the application and full essay.

Garden Club of America Scholarships |
Multiple scholarships and fellowships available in the areas of environmental science and engineering, botany, conservation, and ocean engineering. Most scholarships are listed with a deadline of February 1. More information and the applications are available here.

This event is a great opportunity to learn more about research initiatives and potential opportunities in the CEOE department while connecting with researchers, faculty, staff and students. You will also have the opportunity to participate in lab tours for a few of the department laboratories. Attending labs include: Advanced Concrete Technology Lab, Marsooili Research Lab, Marine Hydrodynamics and Davidson Lab, Coastal Engineering Research Group, iSMART Lab, and the Center for Environmental Systems.

Save the Date: CEOE Networking Event
|
The goal of the event is to promote networking among CEOE undergraduate students, alumni, industry professionals, faculty, and staff. This event is co-hosted by the Stevens chapters of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), SEEPS (Stevens Environmental Engineering Professional Society), SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) and Chi Epsilon (the Civil Engineering Honors Society).
