Kinesiology Student Research Day
|
The UTA Department of Kinesiology's Student Research Day began in 1988 with just six poster presentations. Since then, it has grown into a valued tradition held each semester, providing a platform for students to showcase their scholarly work. Undergraduate students from various courses, as well as those affiliated with research laboratories, are given the opportunity to present their research to peers, faculty, and the broader academic community.
A highlight of the event is the presentation of the Barry McKeown Student Research Award, which recognizes the most outstanding poster presentations. This prestigious award honors Dr. Barry McKeown, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and the visionary founder of the Student Research Day.

Last month, the CONHI Maternal and Reproductive Health Equity (MRHE) Research Lab partnered with community organizations to commemorate Black Maternal Health Week. The MRHE Lab co-hosted a community baby shower which collected donations for two local maternal health organizations and hosted "A Date with Data: Maternal Health World Cafe," featuring CONHI Assistant Professors Dr. Jaquetta Reeves and Dr. Jennifer Woo.

In keeping with UTA's rich tradition of celebrating our graduates each semester, the week leading up to Commencement Day was filled with joyful gatherings of family, friends and colleagues.

My time in the MPH program has been an incredible period of growth and discovery. One of the highlights was working as a Graduate Public Health Student, where I supported instruction in Intermediate Biostatistics. This experience sharpened my analytical skills and deepened my understanding of statistical methods critical to public health research.
I am also proud to share that I earned a Grade of A (GPA 4.0) in all my master’s courses, a testament to my dedication and the outstanding support I received from the CONHI faculty.
Additionally, my internship with UTA Health Services’ Office of Health Promotion was a meaningful part of my journey. I contributed to key initiatives such as HIV testing awareness, student wellness programs, and public health outreach. These experiences taught me how to effectively engage diverse populations and promote healthier communities.
The MPH program at CONHI has not only prepared me academically and professionally but also inspired a long-term commitment to health equity and lifelong learning. I am incredibly grateful to the faculty and staff who guided and mentored me along the way.
Thank you for being such an important part of my success. I look forward to staying connected with CONHI as a proud UTA alumna.
