Looking Back on 2024 in D4
The end of 2024 provided a perfect opportunity to reflect on a busy year in District 4. From two groundbreakings on recreational facilities in John Hunt Park to breaking ground on of a new grocery store on Governors Drive, it’s been an eventful year. Meanwhile, Council Member Kling can typically be found walking neighborhoods in D4, interacting with constituents and calling in problems he sees that need to be addressed.

That familiar face you saw recently in the Huntsville Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker? Yes, that was Council Member Kling along with his wife, Tanjie. The Klings have long participated in the show and enjoy being a part of a Huntsville holiday tradition.

Data Leads to Safer Roads
Whether it’s on I-565, Memorial Parkway or some other roadway, there are lots of cars on Huntsville’s roads. Making travel as safe as possible is a mission embraced by the City in the adoption of Vision Zero, a strategic plan to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries by 2050. A wealth of data, including community input, will pave the pathway to safer roads.

Ready for Winter Weather?
It’s that time of year again when winter weather can make traveling difficult. Huntsville-Madison County Emergency Management Director Jeff Birdwell provides some advice on how to get ready when snow or ice can snarl city streets or even lead to extended power outages. When Old Man Winter shows up, preparedness is the key.

Business License Renewals
The City has started accepted business operating license renewals through the online portal. The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 31. While online renewals are preferred, new or existing business owners wanting to submit applications or renewal information in person can do so on the third floor of City Hall, 305 Fountain Circle, during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Mission: Helping Others
The work of those to help others is admirable and City Blog recognizes two such organizations: Community Free Dental Clinic and HEALS (Health Establishments at Local Schools). Both nonprofit organizations work to improve healthcare access for Huntsville’s underserved populations and received funding from the Council in the City’s 2025 budget.

D4 Deck the District Winner
Council Member Kling congratulated Woolsey Finnell as the D4 winner of the City Council’s inaugural Deck the Districts Holiday Light Contest. Winners from each district were selected in the contest, which recognized residents who added a special flair to their holiday spirit with dazzling light displays. The Council is already looking forward to the 2025 contest so start dreaming up your best light displays.

No Public Office Hours in January
Council Member Kling will not be holding his usual drop-in office hours on the third Monday of January because the meeting location at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library downtown branch will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Office hours will resume on Feb. 17 from 6-7 p.m. at the library.
