Dear UMBC Community,

We have recently learned that one of our community members is currently being tested for a possible COVID-19 infection. We expect to have test results in two days.

The community member affected is receiving medical care and is doing well. We are following our established process of working with the Baltimore County Health Department to identify members of our community who have been in contact with the individual, notify them, and ask them to self-quarantine.

We know that this is a challenging time for many of you, and the Incident Management Team continues to work to support you. Given the spread of this virus, we have been preparing for this possibility and believe we have taken important steps to slow the transmission of this virus in our community. Most students have now left campus, and our community is preparing for the move to online classes after spring break on March 23. Telework will begin Thursday, except for those employees notified by supervisors that their presence on campus is essential.

Our Incident Management Team continues to meet regularly to respond to the needs of the small number of students still on campus, monitor situations like these, and establish guiding policies and procedures in this rapidly changing situation. Moving forward, we unfortunately expect to have more potential cases in our community and will communicate these developments in our daily COVID-19 Action Update on myUMBC, which will resume on Wednesday March 18. If you have questions or concerns, please connect with us at
