As we navigate the challenges posed by climate change, it’s crucial that our work explores innovative solutions and fosters collaborations that can lead to sustainable futures.

I am pleased to highlight some exciting events from the Sydney Environment Institute that reflect our ongoing research and commitment to these goals.

Natural solutions: seawalls are not the only climate buffer is SEI’s third panel in our four-part  Climate and Biodiversity Crises Series. The panel will explore new findings from SEI’s project on climate buffer projects in the Philippines, addressing justice and biodiversity alongside climate adaptation solutions. You can register below.

We have also announced the final panel in our Climate and Biodiversity Crises series, Will putting a price on nature protect it? Join us as panellists from business, conservation and academia engage in a conversation on the merits – and dangers – of pricing nature.

Finally, our new podcast series, "Stories are the Toolkit," highlights the diverse and informal efforts essential in disaster response and recovery. This series, based on the desires of disaster-impacted communities to share their experiences, showcases the power of storytelling in addressing environmental challenges.

Innovation, collaboration, and engagement on climate impacts and solutions are central to the multidisciplinary work of SEI. We look forward to your participation in these events and engagement with our initiatives.

Natural solutions: seawalls are not the only climate buffer

As climate disasters increase in severity and frequency, nations must adapt to protect citizens and assets, but is building more infrastructure the solution?

Hear from experts as they explore the potential of nature-based solutions, like wetlands and mangroves, in acting as climate buffer infrastructure.

Our expert panel will share new findings from SEI’s project Examining climate buffer projects in the Philippines, that address how justice and biodiversity issues can be addressed alongside climate adaptation solutions.

The Species Showdown

As part of Science Week 2024, SEI members Prof Carolyn Hogg and Prof Dieter Hochuli will face off in a battle of wits about the survival of species on our planet.
