Undergraduate students are invited to be part of the Expo, a campus-wide celebration of research, scholarship, and creative activities on April 10. Students must submit an abstract. Learn more

Hosted by the Global Engagement Office, the first annual Global Symposium is a chance for faculty, staff, and students to share and celebrate scholarship and programs with a global focus. Submit a session proposal or a Global Excellence Award nomination by March 1. Learn more.

Martha Blakeney Hodges Fellowship Program, UNCG students apply by March 7
Sponsored by the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives, the Hodges Fellowship Program is a 9-month (August through April) learning opportunity for UNCG undergrads or graduate students, with a stipend of $6000 per year. Learn more

Global Engagement Office Kohler Awards next deadline: March 15
The Global Engagement Office provides Kohler Awards of up to $1000 to faculty and staff for international research, special projects, student programs, or internationalizing curriculum. Applications are reviewed 4 times a year. Learn more

Undergrad Research and Creativity Awards (URCA) for AY 2025-26, apply by April 14
URCA awards help faculty and students partner on meaningful projects that advance their discipline/ field of study. Faculty apply for up to $3000 for their student and $500 to cover project costs. Community-based URCA awards provide additional funding. Learn more

Chancellor's Initiative for Transformative Research, apply by May 15
Provides seed funding for promising projects that will lead to strong community impacts and attract significant external funding. Proposals should plan to develop internal and external partnerships that establish interdisciplinary projects to focus on advancing knowledge and building innovation, while exposing students to new experiences. External Funding

ACLS Leading Edge Fellowships, apply by March 12
Leading Edge Fellowships place recent humanities PhDs with nonprofit organizations committed to promoting social justice. Recent PhDs from across all fields of the humanities and interpretive social sciences are encouraged to apply. Annual stipends starting at $70,000. Learn more

American Cancer Society Research Scholar Grants, apply by April 1
Provide support for independent, self-directed researchers. Proposals are investigator-initiated and may pursue questions across the cancer research continuum, as long as they fit within an ACS priority area. $215K/yr direct costs plus 10% indirect, up to 4 years. Learn more

Whitehall Foundation Research Grants and Grants-in-Aid, letters of intent due April 15
Focused exclusively on assisting basic (not clinical) research in vertebrate and invertebrate neurobiology in the United States. Research grants of up to 3 years ($100K/year) and grants-in-aid for early-career researchers (1 year, up to $30K). A letter of intent is required, due April 15. Learn more

NSF Launching Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences, due April 17
Supports the research of pre-tenure faculty at institutions with historically lower levels of NSF funding and their efforts to prepare students for 21st century STEM workforce. Awards are for 24 months with budgets of up to $250,000 total costs (direct plus indirect). Learn more

Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Grants, accepted anytime
The Foundation makes grants primarily to support original research and education related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and economics. Grants may be for research or "non-research." A letter of inquiry is the required first step. Learn more

... pre-applications and letters of intent should be entered in
Cayuse SP.

Some external funding opportunities require applicants to submit a pre-application or letter of intent (LOI) before a full application. Depending on the opportunity, the pre-app or LOI may be required for all applicants, optional for all applicants, or a selection mechanism that determines who may submit a full proposal. In general, PIs should work with the grants office to create and route a Cayuse record for these pre-applications, just as they would for a full application. Routing pre-apps and LOIs through Cayuse SP ensures:

elements like budget estimates comply with sponsor and university rules,
grant-writing activity for individual faculty and their departments is tracked, and
the grants office can prepare for a future full application.

And just as for a full application, PIs should keep in mind the deadline is not the deadline. The deadline for finalizing grant materials to route in Cayuse should be at least 1 week before the sponsor deadline. CAS Office of Research encourages PIs to notify us of their intent to submit 4-6 weeks before a deadline, and plan to route finalized materials 6 business days before the sponsor deadline. This will ensure appropriate time for approvals and review. Learn more about how to Start A Proposal.
