Lazaro Ochoa and SP Plus Take the Wheel for Great Customer Service
Lazaro Ochoa (he/him), a driver for SP Plus, received the following compliment from a thankful passenger:
"I parked in the red economy lot and, when I was returning from my trip, the shuttle driver Lazaro went out of his way to help everyone load and unload their luggage. What a pleasant person!
On a separate note, when I got to my car, there was plastic taped to my rear side window. Apparently, I did not roll up the window and someone from SP Plus covered it for me. I am so grateful!"

What's New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby and August Forum
Ticket Lobby: Last week, a crew relocated the ATM and AED in the south ticket lobby from its spot near the elevator around the corner to the south wall. On Thursday, Aug. 31, the AED near the south escalators will temporarily move to the column west of the escalators. In mid-September, both the ATM and AED will move to permanent locations – we’ll share more when that happens.
August Forum: Do you wonder what the overhead work in the ticket lobby is all about or what's next for baggage claim? On Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., Jen Reynolds with the Port of Portland along with Pat Bifone and Bri Leiblie of Hoffman-Skanska will share the latest construction updates, give you an early look at architectural renderings and behind-the-scenes photos and videos – all in under 30 minutes! You can call in or watch online, just email PDX People Communications before Tuesday, Aug. 29, for the meeting link.
Looking for more PDX Next information? We're keeping you in the know on what's new on the PDX People website. Have questions or suggestions about construction? Email hello@pdxnext.com or call the construction hotline at 503.460.4339.

Employee Parking Office Pulls Into a New Spot
On Thursday, Sept. 7, the PDX Employee Parking Office moves to a new location. To find it, use the south tunnel and take the elk elevators to the transportation plaza on Level 1. When you exit the elevators, turn left and go through the doors; the office is down the hall near Lost and Found. Open hours and additional information can be found on the employee parking page.

Meet the Maker: Nancy Bebek of Prestige Tile & Stone
When Nancy Bebek and her son, Nick, started Beaverton’s Prestige Tile & Stone in 2009, Nancy had just acquired her contractor’s license and Nick had just finished his tile-setting apprenticeship. Chasing success, she says, felt daunting until she enrolled in our Small Business Mentor-Protégé program. Almost 150 small businesses have graduated from the three-year program since it started in 1995 and many, like Prestige, are owned by women or people of color. You can now spot Prestige's work in Concourses B and D, where the company collaborated with designer Sara Schmidt and local tilemaker Pratt + Larson to install two wall mosaics. Once the new main terminal is complete in 2025, you'll find four more – all installed by Nancy, Nick and their crews. Get to know Nancy, who's now a mentor herself.

PDX in Pictures
Animals from Maui recently arrived at PDX as the Oregon Humane Society jumped in to help create more space at shelters on the island after wildfires devastated the area. A Southwest Airlines plane arrived in Maui carrying emergency supplies including t-shirts, blankets, flashlights, socks and hygiene kits. The next day, the plane loaded in more than 100 shelters pets from the Maui Humane Society to be flown to PDX in a partnership between the airline, Greater Good Charities and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. Big thanks to PDX People from the Port of Portland and Southwest Airlines who helped make the arrival a success.
