Dear SMPA Community,
Welcome back! I hope you had an excellent winter break.
We begin a new semester on the front lines of events and history. All around us, there are big changes. The media are in the crosshairs, our politics move into a new and combative phase, 2020 presidential candidates are lining up, investigations mount and the most diverse class ever in the U.S. Congress brings new voices to power and to the national debate.
This semester, you will experience this remarkable moment in history through your classes, internships and events.
I especially hope you will join us for an exciting lineup of events that we are planning at SMPA on the changing face of U.S. politics and the importance of a free and open press for our democracy.
I also want to hear your feedback on improving our SMPA community. Please join me on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 4 – 5 p.m. for the first SMPA Director’s Council meeting of the semester.

Wishing you a fantastic spring semester,
Frank Sesno
SMPA Director
