Dear Student,
We are aware that students in Wren Hall have recently and on several occasions encountered a person who does not live in the residence hall. When confronted, the person quickly exits the residence hall. While they have not exhibited any threatening behavior and we have no reason to believe there are safety issues, clearly unauthorized entry into a Tufts residence hall is unacceptable and concerning. Understandably, this situation can create distress and anxiety.
We are taking this situation very seriously and have been in communication with the students living in Wren Hall. Your safety in all of our residence halls is our top priority. For support and resources, the RA’s, Residential Life, and the Dean of Students staff are available and I encourage you to reach out to any of us. For immediate concerns and to report any suspicious individual, please call the TUPD 24/7 help line at 617-627-3400.
Tufts University Police Department has been monitoring Wren Hall since the first report and will continue to do so. Students also will see increased patrols by officers. Like you, we are frustrated that we have not been able to catch this individual; however, TUPD is confident that this person will be caught should they continue this behavior. In the meantime, TUPD has the following recommendations:
- Never provide entry to a residence hall to someone you do not know.
- Do not disable the entry door locks.
- Be vigilant.
- Report the sighting of any suspicious individual within your residence hall to TUPD by calling the 24/7 help line: 617-627-3400.
- Do not confront unknown individuals in your residence hall.
- Keep your doors locked, especially when in your room and at night.
Thank you for your ongoing help with this matter, and I wish you a restful November break.
