Student Government Association Provides Professional Headshots for AllÂ
MEMPHIS, TENN. - Â Under the leadership of President Ansley Ecker and Vice President Steven Ross. Students at the University of Memphis can now get a professional headshot for free and on their own schedule.Â
This summer the University of Memphis Student Government Association secured funding and purchased the Iris Booth. The Iris Booth is a 20 square foot booth created by a veteran studio photographer to deliver clean, crisp images in a new, reimagined way.
Ecker and Ross were elected in April 2023 and got straight to work delivering on their campaign promise of providing more opportunities for UofM students to be career ready. When describing their campaign Ecker said,
"When campaigning career readiness was a major point in our vision, and with that we wanted to sponsor a monthly headshot event. However, we were able to go above and beyond that goal with the purchase of the Iris Booth. The Iris Booth provides a constant resource that students can use at any time and work around their schedules. That being said, we hope that many students will use it and that there will be a larger impact made than what has been made in the past with the headshot events."
The booth sits outside of the Student Government Association Office and "is a great step towards leveling the playing field by providing equal access to professional headshots. It’s a permanent resource that can give students a competitive advantage on the job market," said Ecker.Â
The booth has been on campus since July of 2023 and has already provided free headshots to 72 students, faculty, and staff.Â
Student Government Association will be hosting an official ribbon cutting for the Iris Booth on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 2:45 PM and invite all to join in this momentous occasion.Â

Tiger Smart StartÂ
This program, for UofM undergraduate students, is an institution-wide response to the increasing number of students who lack access to required course material due to cost. This program makes getting textbooks easier for students, which will ultimately improve their success at UofM. Tigers SmartStart is estimated to reduce the cost of traditional textbook purchases by an average of 40 to 50% and provide them by the first day of class.
Additionally, the time saved and added convenience of having all your required course materials sourced for you, ready for pick-up or shipped and automatically loaded into your Canvas account can remove a significant burden and allow students to focus on their success and preparation for the semester!
The opt out window is August 5 - September 8, 2023.

Parking & TransportationÂ
For students, General Permit Parking is paid for through the Maintenance Fee portion of your semester tuition. Once you have registered for classes, a semester validation sticker will be mailed to the address on file with Student Records. New students are mailed a permit (hangtag) along with a semester validation sticker prior to fee payment. The UofM permit (hangtag) must be updated every semester with a current semester validation sticker.
If, for any reason, the student does not receive the semester validation sticker or permit through mail, he/she needs to come to the Parking & Transportation Services Office to obtain one. There is a grace period for the first full week of class for those who have not received a permit/sticker. Those who have not picked up either of these will be subject to receiving a citation after the grace period.Â

Meal PlansÂ
It's time to select and purchase your 2023 - 2024 meal plan. Whether you are living on campus or commuting, there is a meal plan for you. Â
We have convenient locations that open up early and stay open late. When it comes to product variety you can choose from all-you-care-to-eat options at The Tiger Den Eatery, featuring grilled favorites, a full salad bar and deli, homestyle entrees and more! You can also use Flex Bucks at the University Center and across campus (excluding Starbucks and vending).
Of course, it’s not just about the food. Our programs are constantly changing to address the issues of nutrition and health as well as create an atmosphere that makes dining on campus a relaxing break in the day from the pressures of student life. Students enjoy themed meals and special events to make dining a social event with friends.
