Dear Graduate School Community,
As the summer progresses, the unique rhythm of summer academic work requires strategic time management to maximize what can be a productive season. Here are three strategies that I have found helpful in maximizing productivity:
Prioritize. Start each week by identifying my three most important tasks, focusing first on high-impact activities that directly advance research and administrative goals before tackling routine tasks.
Time-Block Your Calendar. Reserve specific hours for focus work, such as writing or data analysis, and treat these blocks of time as immovable appointments.
Build in Buffer Time. Allow 25% more time than I initially estimate for major tasks. Research can involve unexpected delays, and this buffer prevents setbacks from derailing your work.
Keep in mind that the Graduate School is here to support you—reach out if you need assistance!
Sincerely,

C. André Christie-Mizell Vice Provost for Graduate Education Dean of the Graduate School Centennial Professor of Sociology
