Curated by Meghana Karnik, T ITL E TB D interrogates myths of being an artist and the disconnection between student and artist life. The post-grad moment is the apex of an artist’s academic achievement—a taste of pride combined with a sense of groundlessness. What’s supposed to happen next? Rather than let student-artists succumb to free fall, T ITL E TB D relays stories where failure is freedom and where unfinished, cyclical, collective ways of working become contexts for care of oneself, community, and lifelong artistic practice.

The submission period for the 2020 Alumni Exhibition has begun. The Alumni Council reintroduced this community-building tradition for CIA alumni in 2018. To enter this juried, alumni-only exhibition, please visit the online SlideRoom application form here. If you already have a SlideRoom account, you will be directed to log in. If you are new to SlideRoom, you will be invited to create an account. For questions relating to SlideRoom, you can email support here.
Artists working in any media are welcome to apply. The $25 submission fee covers up to three pieces, which must be submitted digitally by April 1, 2020. Fifteen dollars of the fee is tax-deductible and will go to support the Alumni Association Scholarship. After Hours: CIA hosts Continuing Education show

The Cleveland Institute of Art invites you to After hours 2020, the second in a newly created exhibition designed to highlight artwork created in Continuing Education evening classes. After Hours will feature work by adult students in courses including CIA’s ceramics, digital arts, drawing and painting, glassblowing, jewelry and metals, metal fabrication and blacksmithing, photography, printmaking, and video. Join us for the exhibition reception on Friday, March 27 from 6 to 8pm.

All CIA artists invited to Duvel competition

Winking Lizard is hosting the 2020 Duvel Art Design Competition, open to all CIA students and alumni. The winning design will be embossed on a limited custom run of Duvel beer glasses featured exclusively at every Winking Lizard restaurant in October. The winner will receive a trip for two to Brussels, Belgium. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 27.

| Visit the closing reception of CWRU African American alumni show

Stop by the closing reception of the African American Artists Alumni Exhibition in the Case Western Reserve University Art Studio Gallery on Friday, March 6 from 5 to 10pm. The artists showcased exemplify the impact of African culture on the arts today and the exhibition features a selection of painting, drawings, photographs, textiles and masks. Featured artists include CIA alumni Danny Carver '80, Anna Arnold '83, Gina Brent '86, Tucker White '91, Jerome White '94, Napoleon Dismuke '99, and Georgio Sabino III, who all studied in the CWRU Art Education Program. A panel discussion will start at 7pm.

Clara Driscoll's work discussed in CMA talk

CIA graduate Clara Driscoll was recently featured in a lively conversation about women artists in Tiffany Studios. Art historian Mark Bassett of CIA and history professor Renée Sentilles of Case Western Reserve University joined curator Stephen Harrison at the Cleveland Museum of Art to discuss Driscoll's role in designing Tiffany lamps. Visit Tiffany in Bloom: Stained Glass Lamps of Louis Comfort Tiffany through June 14.

Painting and Drawing juniors showcase work

Join us for a one-night exhibition of new work by CIA juniors Kaitlyn McKanna, Ash Sark, Samantha Schneider and Amani Williams. Doing a Gender examines, poses questions, and challenges how gender is viewed in mass culture today. The exhibition was organized through CIA’s Creativity Works program, designed to create self-initiated real-world experiences for students in the visual arts and craft majors, and is supported by the generosity of the GR Lincoln Family Foundation and the Fenn Educational Fund of the Cleveland Foundation. Doing a Gender will be on view at Praxis Fiber Workshop on March 28 from 6 to 9pm.

Thomas Lyon Mills '78 wrote a poem and catalog essay for Lorraine Shemesh's artist-in-residence exhibition at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Susan Donovan Lowe ’89 will have work on view in 40th Street Studio Works at Gallery W at American Greetings in Cleveland. The show will also feature works from Johanna Page ’87, Lucette Johnson ’93 and Helen Frankovitz Libens ’93, and will be on view from March 12 through April 30. - Rooms to Let: CLE is accepting artist proposals for temporary art exhibitions that will appear within the rooms of three vacant houses in Slavic Village. The deadline for proposals is March 13.
- Notre Dame College is seeking an adjunct game design instructor to teach several levels of Game Design theory and technology. The ideal candidate will be interested in working with the college to help develop an esports culture as well as cutting-edge technically integrated program.
- American Eagle Outfitters Inc. is hiring a senior art director of social media. The ideal candidate will have experience in graphic design and art direction.
- The Beachwood Arts Council is seeking artist submissions for Our Immigrant Nation, a juried show presenting a wide range of artwork and perspectives on immigration. Apply by August 15 to show work in the exhibition.
- Naughty Dog is hiring a level and environment designer to create game play experiences. Qualified candidates will have experience with game programming and design skills.
- The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is seeking a letter and script engraver apprentice.
