FACES programs celebrate our Scholars' achievements by honoring them through ceremony and public recognition. One such important rite of passage that is celebrated in all FACES programs is our Blue Coat Ceremony. Modeled after the White Coat Ceremony that traditionally marks a student's transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences in many health professional programs, the FACES Blue Coat Ceremony celebrates our Scholars' successful completion of their preparatory curriculum and entry into their work-based learning internships.
Teachers, friends, family and program supporters join together to celebrate FACES Scholars as they are "coated" with their own individual lab coats emblemed with the FACES logo. Once coated, students come together to recite the FACES oath, acknowledging publicly a commitment to integrity, excellence, and service:
"I pledge to conduct myself in all matters,
As a FACES Health Scholar,
With integrity, care, commitment, and respect for others;
While dedicating myself to achieve my goals,
To lead the way, and to serve others."
Students look forward to this event because it represents the completion of their training and acknowledges the hard work they have put in. It also marks the start of their internships in the field, shadowing professionals in a real life setting and putting their training to work.
