We hope this newsletter finds you feeling inspired, energized, and empowered post-Earth Month! As the academic year comes to a close, we wrap up this semester of reporting with a showcase of student fashion design and photography, tips for an eco-conscious move-out, and a video on the history of environmental injustice in South Baltimore. For undergraduates looking to get involved behind the scenes at the OOS, read on to learn about new internship opportunities in sustainable dining, Green Labs, and waste reduction.
And of course, a warm thank you to all who joined in the Sustainability Leadership Symposium, Earth Week, and Earth Fest. As the university community disperses for the summer, we hope you will continue to seek out those opportunities for community connection and collective care wherever you are—and tell us about them!

"Things are changing, breaking down, and starting over—which means things can get better. We can learn to create fashion without drastic environmental costs, fashion that uplifts and accepts." |
- Hanna Al-Kowski, KSAS '23 |
| APOCALYPSE: brought to you by Marque |
Marque Magazine, a student-run fashion and editorial publication at Hopkins, is releasing its Spring 2023 edition in just a few weeks—and the theme? Apocalypse. Editor in Chief Hanna Al-Kowski described was drawn to the concept "because of its association not just with cataclysm, but with recovery. We start over a lot in our lives—that kind of destruction can produce a void really fit for growth...there's a lot of opportunity to consider how we can rebuild creatively and sustainably, especially in fashion." Featuring articles on deconstructed fashion and more, this edition explores the nuances of sustainability and transformation. Take a look at the Marque website (and attend the edition launch on May 4) for more student responses to the social, and environmental climates of our time.

Dear Green Guide: I'm moving out of my apartment this term. How can I make it an eco-conscious process?
|
As the end of the academic year comes to a close, colleges across the country face a sharp spike in waste production—some over 200 tons. At moveout, college dumpsters and roadsides are piled with furniture, food, school supplies, bedding, and more. The good news is, a little planning before moveout can save you a whole lot of unnecessary wasted goods and money. Even if you’re not moving this term or year, this is a good time to lookout for secondhand goods coming off the university market—and either way, save these resources for the next time you relocate!
