Scheduling Note: The Center for Faculty Excellence strives to avoid scheduling conflicts, though some may occur. Most virtual programs are recorded, so please register to receive the recording and any follow-up materials if you are unable to attend the session(s) live. The CFE follows the GW holiday calendar and does not schedule programming on university-recognized holidays and observances.

The GW SMHS has released new guidelines on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the MD Program. These guidelines emphasize academic integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
We encourage everyone to review the full guidelines and incorporate these expectations into their academic and clinical activities.

The CFE Spring 2026 Educational Technology Webinars are focused on design principles and the effective integration of educational technology into teaching practices. 

These sessions support faculty in developing engaging, learner-centered instructional strategies and introduce tools to enhance interaction, collaboration, and content delivery when needed. 

The sessions will be recorded and provided on the CFE website for faculty as resources. Each session includes templates, examples, and optional follow-up consultations.

Do you need help designing an educational session or using a new teaching technology?

Teddy Hristov, the CFE Senior Instructional Designer, holds weekly office hours to support faculty. These office hours are designated for discussing and practicing the best use of educational technology and pedagogical teaching and learning methods. Do not hesitate to contact her if you have questions about completing a session design worksheet.

The CFE offers peer assessments of teaching to all regular-status, full-time faculty in SMHS. This program is designed to enhance faculty teaching skills in the classroom, in conferences and small groups, or in clinical teaching at the bedside, and assessments can also be included in teaching portfolios used in the academic promotion process. Peer reviews are conducted by Master Teacher graduate volunteers and are confidential. Faculty interested in a peer review or other consultations should complete the form below.

Congratulations to Dr. Maranda Ward, who has been named the 2026 recipient of the Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) Dean’s Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. This honor recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions to their field and community.
Dr. Ward is celebrated for her leadership in advancing health equity locally and globally, as well as her commitment to developing future leaders across education, public health, and health sciences. She will be recognized at the GSEHD Celebration on May 16, 2026, at the Smith Center on the Foggy Bottom campus.

ABMS Scholars Research Grant

The ABMS Scholars Program supports emerging physician leaders through funding for innovative research and education projects that advance assessment, learning, and clinical practice.

NBME Grant Applications Now Open

NBME is now accepting applications for two grant programs supporting innovation in medical education assessment.

2026 Emerging Innovators Grants

Deadline: June 15, 2026
For early- and mid-career faculty, researchers, and program leaders. Up to $25,000 per award

2027 Stemmler Grants

Deadline: June 29, 2026
For mid- and senior-career researchers.
Up to $150,000 per team

Peer Review for Health Professions Education (HPE) Grants

The Academy of Educators offers a peer grant review consultation service for SMHS faculty preparing health professions education (HPE) grants. This service provides targeted feedback on regional and national grants, along with an optional follow-up consultation. Faculty must submit their request at least 6 weeks before the grant submission deadline.

Interested in developing skills to peer-review scholarship? Join the award-winning GW Rev Reviewer Group. Launched in 2025 by Zareen Zaidi and Tony Artino, Rev Reviewers was created to support and educate faculty in conducting high-quality peer review - an essential component of scholarly publishing and academic credibility.

The AAMC Staff Professionals Across the Continuum of Education (SPACE) will host the Staff Track 2026 Virtual Conference on Friday, June 26, featuring innovations, workshops, scholarly presentations, and networking.

Community members are invited to submit proposals (Innovators and Advocacy in Medical Education, Workshops, Posters). Submissions will be peer reviewed. The staff track is free for all participants.

The Generalists in Medical Education (TGME) 2026 annual conference call for proposals is now open. The theme of the conference is New Teams for New Times: Collective Wisdom in Medical Education.

The Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME) is seeking review paper proposals that advance medical education research and practice. Various review methods are encouraged, including systematic, scoping, and conceptual approaches.

Up to $5,000 in funding will be awarded to the first author, with projects to be completed within two years.
