I’m Dr. Cyndia Morales Muñiz, director of HSI Culture and Partnerships at UCF, and I am so excited to share with you that we are launching our Vamos Knights Fund! “Vamos Knights” means “Go Knights” in Spanish and this fund will help support our Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) initiatives at UCF.

What is an HSI? HSIs are colleges and universities where Latinos represent over a quarter of the undergraduate student body. At UCF, our Latino student population continues to grow, and we now serve almost 18,000 Latino undergrad Knights!

As you know, undergrad Knights become AlumKnights, and more than 80% of our Latino alumni reside in the Sunshine State, with 68% living and working right here in Central Florida.

So, it’s important that we invest in our students now, because they are our future community leaders who will go on to contribute to the economic well-being of our local service area.

I’m reminded of one of our alums, Gonzalo Sauri '18 who once served as the president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at UCF. He now leads the Hispanic-American Employee Resource Group at Accenture and was instrumental in including UCF in Accenture’s annual giving campaign in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions.

That investment and support is what led to the creation of our Vamos Knights Fund, which will help us develop scholarship and fellowship opportunities for students and provide faculty and staff with the resources necessary to better SERVE our students through research activity and other professional development programs. ¡Gracias Gonzalo y gracias, Accenture!

As we celebrate National HSIs Week in September and our HSI identity year around, AlumKnights who want to support these efforts are invited to participate in our $25 for 25% campaign in recognition of the HSI Latino enrollment threshold, which is 25%. If you can’t give $25, we ask that you give what you can.

We greatly appreciate your support of the Vamos Knights Fund and this growing segment of our UCFamilia.
