Blood Drives at PDX Save Lives
United Airlines regularly sponsors blood drives at PDX and, at the most recent drives in October and January, the Red Cross collected 83 life-saving units of blood and 27 first time donors participated. This makes PDX their most successful line station (a non-hub airport for United) blood drive location!
We'll continue hosting blood drives on the mezzanine level in partnership with United, and Delta Air Lines will start sponsoring drives in the same location starting this summer. Additionally, the Red Cross will offer extended hours to accommodate everyone interested in donating blood.
The next blood drive will be in April – keep an eye on the calendar on the PDX People website to track upcoming opportunities. Thank you to our airline partners, the Red Cross and everyone who donated to make these drives successful!
Valentine's greeting cards at PiPH at PDX
CBS Saturday Morning: Portland's New Airport Highlights Small Businesses
Did you know that America's greeting card industry generates about $7.5 billion a year? But it's not just big companies like Hallmark and American Greetings making the cards – it’s also small businesses like Victoria Venturi’s Paper Epiphanies, which has a home right here at PDX. CBS Saturday Morning’s Elise Preston came to the airport to check out PiPH and talk with our PDX Concessions teams about our strategy to attract and support small businesses. Nationwide, women and minority-owned businesses generate trillions of dollars, yet struggle to find capital, mentorship, and other resources. So how does the airport reduce those barriers? One thing we did was change the format of our request for proposals, allowing the businesses to reflect their own personality and brand. Now we’re seeing big returns – for both Victoria and Paper Epiphanies, and for small businesses who get a shot at the airport action.
