Upon investigation into the failed component, it was found to be a supplier defect. Defective parts have since been removed from production. Affected units in field require immediate preventative corrective action. We have narrowed down the period in which these parts were used in production and will be providing replacement parts under warranty. As this component must be changed immediately we will maintain a pre-approved warranty replacement offer until July 1, 2020. For units that apply after this date range, they will have to use our normal warranty process.
Failure Mode
Upon investigation of the EPDM end cap, it was found that we had received a non-conforming batch received from the supplier.
If the EPDM Tank cap fails on a unit in the field, a leak will develop from the bottom of the humidifier tank. Units properly installed with a floor drain or drain pan should see none, or minimal damage to property and low hazard to health and safety. The unit will be inoperable until the failed cap is replaced.
Affected Units
The affected period of shipments is approximately one year.
Units shipped between March 11, 2019 and Jan 31, 2020 are at risk of containing the defective part.
A mix of good and defective parts were used during this period.
Replacement Parts
We will be providing a new stainless steel cap under warranty to any sites within the affected range. Due to the potential implications of the failure including damage to property or risk to health and safety if there is no floor drain or drain pan installed, it is highly recommended at all affected units receive these parts and be reworked as soon as possible. The part number for the replacement cap is:
2598767 SP, Tank Cap, 0.5in Compression Fttg.
The quantity of caps required per unit is as follows:
GS 50/100/ 150 - 1
GS 200/300 - 2
GS 450 - 3
GS 600 - 4
To replace the end cap(s), the tank must first be drained. Once drained, the defective end cap(s) can be removed and replaced with the stainless steel cap(s) from the kit above.
Ongoing Maintenance
At each service visit, we recommend inspecting all GS CS/NX unit tank end caps along with all other rubber hosing as suggested as part of regular maintenance. If the existing EPDM Caps show signs of wear or damage, we recommend replacement with the metal cap.
The end cap replacement spare part kit is available to all sites, not just those within the affected warranty period.
