We are happy to announce that The Lunch Bus will be joining our 3rd annual Fall for Your Library craft fair on Saturday, October 5 from 10AM - 3PM.  This is a wonderful opportunity to find unique gifts for the upcoming holiday season, or something special for yourself. We hope to grow this event with your support! A variety of vendors will be present, with each offering a different product line.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, we will be closing at 2PM on Friday, August 30th for staff development. We will also be closed for the entire day on Saturday, August 31 and Monday, September 2.

Beginning Saturday, September 7 we are returning to our normal Saturday hours of 10AM - 5PM.

All are invited to attend the reveal of our Community Mural that was created during the months of July and August.  This project was supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  We are grateful to our consulting artist, Rick Minard who helped to bring this project to fruition!  We hope you can attend the unveiling in the library's Community Room on Thursday, September 19 at 6PM.  Light refreshments will be available.

The Red Arrow was a passenger train of the Pennsylvania RR traveling east from Detroit to New York in February of 1947. One of the many “name trains” on the PRR, the Red Arrow had sleeper cars in tow, allowing passengers to pass the night while the train got them to their destination. Postal workers, families, performance troupes and military personnel were aboard this fateful night,  when the train was traveling too quickly to round the curve between Gallitzin and Altoona, PA. Ken Serfass will share the history and personal stories of those fateful passengers and rescue personnel.

BAPL is collaborating with the McKean County SPCA for our Cat Cafe! Adults are invited to indulge in some quiet reading with cats and kittens who will love to curl up in a lap! Our group of hobbyists meet every Thursday, from 1 PM - 3 PM in the library's Community Room. Everyone is welcome - from beginner to expert. They share stories, patterns, and discover new techniques. Drop ins are always welcome, as well as hobbyists who embroider, tatt, cross stitch, and work with felt! Meet new friends and pick up a new hobby!

Do you have some BASIC tech-related questions?  Then join us on Monday, September 16 or Monday, September 30 from 10AM - 12PM.  Library staff will try to answer your questions, then you can have time to practice your newly acquired skill during open lab time.  Staff will remain on hand should you have additional questions. We are pleased to share information regarding an upcoming author visit:

Former Bradford resident, Dr. Margaret A. Weitekamp, will be speaking in the University Room at Pitt-Bradford, on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7PM.  Dr. Weitekamp, Chair of the Space History Department and Curator of the Cultural and Space History Collection with the Smithsonian Institution Air and Space Museum, will discuss her newest publication, Space Craze: America's Enduring Fascination with Real and Imagined Spaceflight.  Dr Weitekamp is a former resident of Bradford and her father, Ray, was a member of the history department at Pitt-Bradford.

On Tuesday, September 17 club members will meet at 5PM.  Participants will discuss Cinder.  New members are always welcome (students in grades 9 - 12). Pizza and free books are part of every session!

Middle Ground will be meeting on Thursday, September 5 at 5PM.  Club members will be discussing the book, The Wild Robot. Enjoy pizza and free books! New members are always welcome. (students in grades 5 - 8).  

Join an awesome club! Local students in grades 3 - 5, are welcome to attend every Monday from 5- 5:45 PM while we read a few chapters from a children’s book. Once the book is finished, we will watch the movie!   This month, the group will be reading Charlotte's Web.  We will meet Monday, Sept. 9. 

This great program resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 10 and will run every Tuesday from 1PM - 2:30PM.  It is designed for students in grades 1 - 5.

Little Learners is a fun-filled program for 0-5 year old children and their parents or caregivers. Hear great stories, and complete a craft or two! Little Learners meets every Monday and Friday at 11 AM.

Bring the little tykes to Stories & Songs on the last Friday of every month at 11AM. We will make some music together with Miss Savannah.

We are excited to bring a special book club for students in grades K - 2.  This group will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 5 - 5:45PM.  "Read the #1 bestselling chapter book that started it all! Magic. Mystery. Time-travel. Get whisked back in time in the magic tree house with Jack and Annie!" ~ Amazon.  We will be reading the Magic Treehouse series, beginning with book #1, Dinosaurs Before Dark.

The Kiwanis Club of Bradford will be conducting a program on the second Wednesday of every month from 6:30 - 7:15PM.  Children are invited to attend in their PJs as they listen to a story, enjoy a bedtime snack, and engage in a calming activity.  Parents just need to get the kiddos home and brush their teeth!

New in September!  We are introducing a special area in the Children's Library for infants and their caregivers.  This spot will contain a variety of toys to encourage 'tummy time," and the reaching of developmental milestones.
