The holiday season is a great time to reflect on all the good our Gull community members have done to serve the Beverly community and beyond. Students, staff, and faculty have volunteered their time and energy to help local neighborhoods and support nonprofits this fall, totaling over 6,434 hours of community service through November 2022.
This semester, our successful partnership with Sodexo continued to combat food waste and hunger via our food delivery program supporting the River House Homeless Shelter in Beverly. Each night, Sodexo packs the food remaining from the day so it can be picked up and delivered to the shelter by volunteers, who we affectionately refer to as our “Hunger Heroes.”
In the spirit of the holidays, all members of the Endicott community were invited and encouraged to participate in the annual Wonderfund Holiday Gift Drive. This community-driven campaign helps local children involved with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families experience the magic and goodwill of the season. Simultaneously, a number of our athletic teams provided toys through their Toys for Touchdowns initiative that provides donations to the Key Program and several other local non-profits. Lastly, our tradition continued as we participated in Beverly Bootstraps Winter Wishes, a community-supported, holiday gift program that helps provide children in grades 12 and under with new clothes, games, and toys.
There are particular seasons that inspire compassion towards our neighbors; however, Gulls always show their commitment to serving others, no matter the day or month. This dedication to helping others is inherent and what makes Endicott College the inspirational, impactful, and invaluable community it is.
A tremendous thank you to everyone for your contributions in service, support, and generosity throughout the year.
Happy Holidays!

Great Gull Gem | Jess Burke '13, M.Ed.'20
During this season of giving, we recognize our Great Gull Gem, Jess Burke, a Double Gull, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and her master’s degree in Special Education. She is a Gull who has committed her personal life and professional career to giving back.
Jess’ passion for serving others was sparked by her high school honors society community service projects. When she arrived at Endicott, Jess sought to join mission-oriented clubs where she could meet other service-minded individuals—and Endicott’s Rotary and Best Buddies Clubs were the perfect fit. Jess also participated in Alternative Spring Break service trips in Alabama, Texas, and Costa Rica. In addition, she pursued internships with service at the forefront, working in a kindergarten classroom and an adult day program of individuals with special needs as well as working with North Shore Habitat for Humanity.
Following graduation, Jess joined AmeriCorps in the Pacific region where she learned about life outside of New England. As a lifelong Massachusetts resident, this experience was enriching and enlightening. When Jess returned home, she started working at Melmark New England, a school committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families by providing evidence-based and applied behavior analytic services. Jess remains at Melmark today, where her dedication to her students is strengthened daily. Jess remains passionate about volunteering, dedicated to supporting Joni and Friends during their annual summer camp for people with disabilities.
Jess shared, “Being in this field and seeing the pure joy each day from this fairly marginalized population is a gift.”
We are grateful for Jess and all our Gulls making their communities better and stronger.
