Dear Students,
November 8th is Election Day. For us, this is the first time we have all been able to vote in a presidential election. As your elected student officials, we want to take a moment to encourage you to turn in your voter ballot and consider the impact that your vote will have.
Historically, only 19 percent of students across the country vote in national elections. We would like you to picture what would be different in the country, your state, and your campus if all students voted. We believe when students vote, students win.
This election will have a national, state, and local impact on students. For example, the federal government determines student loans and funding for programs like the Pell Grant. The Oregon state legislature determines the amount of money our university receives each year—which directly influences the rate of our tuition and fees. At a local level, the Eugene City Council members implement ordinances that affect student renters and our surrounding community.
For those of you who are registered to vote in Oregon, here is some non-partisan voter information: Oregon State Voter Guide
There is still time to turn in your ballot! While you can no longer mail it in, please drop it off at an official ballot drop location, such as the one located in the EMU Amphitheater. You have until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8th to drop off your ballot.
Happy Election Day!
